Assistant Teacher, Pre-Kindergarten

The Assistant Teacher will work in our pre-K class with another assistant teacher and a lead teacher. The Assistant Teacher will oversee the care of a group of children ages 3-4 years old in our After Care Pre-K program. The program is located at 39-01 Queens Boulevard in Sunnyside, Queens. The Assistant Teacher needs to be flexible and willing to work in the 3K class when coverage is needed.

The SCS Youth and Family Services department offers engaging, youth-centered programming to children and youth throughout Queens and beyond. We offer a free full day pre-kindergarten, after-school and summer camp programs for elementary/middle school students, and high school programming. Our youth development continuum spans pre-K to college, and services are offered across seven campuses .

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety of all program participants.
• Assist with lesson plans and preparation for activities in advance.
• Assist teacher with small and large group activities.
• Pick up lunch from our senior center daily.
• Implement and engage students in age-appropriate activities.
• Provide constant supervision to assigned groups of children.
• Keep room and activity areas cleaned and organized.
• Distribute snacks and materials to participants.
• Motivate and maintain the active involvement of program participants.
• Report any behavioral and/or facility issues to the Program Director.
• Share responsibilities with the team on posting photos and recaps on class dojo weekly.
• Attend all required meetings and trainings.
• May cover the duties of the lead teacher if they are absent.
• May need to communicate with parents.
• Other duties as assigned that pertain to program operations.

Qualifications

• At least a high school diploma; associate degree or higher in early childhood education preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills.

Schedule:

8 am – 3:30 pm

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: Through June 30, 2026, with a chance to renew in September.

Compensation: $21 –$22 hourly (non-exempt)
