Overview
News Corp is seeking an experienced Director to play a critical role that is responsible for supporting management
reporting, budget and forecasting, benefit tracking, decision board reporting, strategic initiatives development and manage
financial analysis around business case development, assumptions-based scenario modeling and vetting of costs/benefits for
new initiatives.
Primary responsibilities include the development and maintenance of business cases, scenario modeling,
management of budgets and forecasts, actual cost and benefit tracking, cash flow and other financial analysis that will lead to
accurate decision-making and effective communication with key stakeholders across News Corporate Services, Head Office and
the business units. This role requires working effectively in a fast-paced environment.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity and fast-paced analytics, able to juggle and prioritize work
under tight timelines. You must be comfortable with complex business case and outcome scenarios; risk profile modeling; and
outsource vs insource/offshoring analysis. You will deal with ambiguous and at times incomplete data - the aptitude to balance
buy-in and input from stakeholders with own assumptions and capturing interdependencies will be key in this role. You must be
a strong communicator, capable of visualizations (PowerPoint, Tableau, or other tools) and summarizing your financial analysis
insights to a centralized Business Partnerships team and individual project or initiative cross-functional teams. The ability to
provide candid, data/assumption-based business insights to various levels of management is key. You must be comfortable
navigating complex matrix organizations to drive effective outcomes.
The Business Partnerships team is part of the News Corporate Services (NCS) team and will have exposure to critical technology
projects across the global businesses of News Corp and will work closely with employees at all levels, including senior
executives in various functional areas of the company. The position is based at company headquarters in New York City.
Responsibilities
- Finance business partner role acting as main point of contact to support the relevant team on financial impact of all
strategic decisions
- Prepare budget and forecasts through ongoing conversations with the relevant team, and track actual results
- Maintain models and ensure accuracy to provide up to date support
- Prepare presentations (financial impact as well as analytical insight) of budgets, forecasts, long-range plans, business
cases and actual results for key stakeholders and senior management
- Assess fit, feasibility, and commercial and financial impacts of corporate strategic initiatives to make appropriate
recommendations, including identification of data and information requirements to support overall opportunity
assessments and deliverables required for approval
- Provide due diligence support on business case development, including defining and documenting assumptions to
support initiatives from design through execution
- Aggregate financial data across multiple projects and provide guidance on how to interpret cost and other data
- Build excel models to conduct detailed business case financial modeling and testing (including accounting and cash
flow impacts, net savings, one-time costs, validation of assumptions, identification of risks/information gaps,
realization timeline and sensitivity analyses) as well as performance tracking
- Review baselines to ensure business case financial benefits are mutually exclusive to status quo
- Provide guidance and support on management and statutory reporting, including cash vs. P&L impacts, support on tax
and accounting treatments and audit disclosures
- Develop and deploy progress scorecards with KPIs for the various initiatives with risk and dependency modeling
- Ensure consistency of modeling mechanics, assumptions and presentation of business cases
- Provide guidance and support on presentation of business cases to key stakeholders, including analysis of financials,
key metrics and sensitivities, supporting data, project design and strategic road maps
- Manage interaction with business units and corporate groups including Tax, Accounting, Legal, Financial Planning &
Analysis
- Help define, support and project manage multiple strategic initiatives towards deliverables and timelines; utilizing
structured processes, frameworks, and approaches for rapidly assessing commercial benefits, business, financial and
other risks
Qualifications
- 6-10 years of relevant business and finance experience (FP&A or Finance Business Partner role)
- Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting
- Experience in IT or Shared Service Finance a plus
- Experience in cost accounting, data reconciliation, data analysis, and visualization and comfort with large data sets
- Strategic and analytical thinking, strong capability of project management and problem-solving skills, sound judgment
and a willingness to resolve issues and problems in a timely manner
- Intellectual capacity to digest complex information, see trends and analysis through data and to translate this into
concrete data-backed financial scenarios
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written), including an understanding of how to synthesize complex data and
information, clearly articulate findings, defend point of view amongst various groups, and present to senior
management
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to develop strong relationships, rapport and credibility across the
organization, promote ideas and proposals persuasively, and communicate with key stakeholders
- Strong quantitative analysis skills, experience in qualitative research methods and creative evaluation
- Ability to multitask, demonstrating independent leadership skills
- Possess strong team building, planning and project management skills driven by process improvement
- Experience in an environment that requires coordination across multiple regions and business segments
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Pay Range: $180,000 - $225,000
