Data Scientist - AI Foundations
The Personalization team makes deciding what to play next easier and more enjoyable for every listener. From Blend to Discover Weekly, we’re behind some of Spotify’s most-loved features. We built them by understanding the world of music, podcasts, and audiobooks better than anyone else. Join us and you’ll keep millions of users listening by making great recommendations to each and every one of them.
We are looking for a Data Scientist to join the AI Foundations team to evaluate generative AI models and their impact on users. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams of engineers, research scientists, product managers, and tech leads to ensure that we are making product and technology decisions grounded in data. In this role, you will bring a deep understanding of user behavior into the development and evaluation of Spotify’s foundational AI products.
What You'll Do
- Perform analyses on AI models and user behavior to help drive strategic and product decisions
- Define and report on key performance metrics to measure the health and success of our products
- Design and analyze experiments and perform causal inference when A/B testing is not an option
- Contribute to novel methodologies for AI model evaluation and measurement, including offline evaluation and LLM-as-a-judge techniques
- Communicate complex technical findings to diverse stakeholders
Who You Are
- You have experience in a hands-on data science role, preferably in an AI or ML team
- You have the technical competence to perform advanced analytics: coding skills (Python or R), experience with analytics and visualization tools (SQL, Tableau, ggplot/matplotlib or equivalent), and experience performing analysis with large datasets, including the use of AI tools for data science
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with an emphasis on storytelling with data
- You are a self-driven person who’s capable of tackling loosely defined problems and driving strategic impact
- Excited to be at the forefront of Spotify’s AI-first product evolution, with a focus on innovation, iteration, and impact
Where You'll Be
- We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! For this role, you can be within the North Americas region as long as we have a work location.
- This team operates within the Eastern Standard time zone for collaboration.
