Toddler Head Teacher

Commonpoint is a non-profit, multi service agency with a flagship site in Forest Hills and 33 additional sites throughout the community that provides a diverse array of programs and services to over 35,000 individuals. We are looking to employ a qualified Toddler Head Teacher at our Sam Field location in Little Neck, who has a passion for instilling values in young children. The Toddler Teacher should possess high energy and the ability to handle the demands of toddlers with different personalities and needs.

To ensure success, the Toddler Head teacher should display a gentle and nurturing personality, and the patience to assist each toddler to mature cognitively and to develop gross motor & fine motor skills. They should be able to assist in developing the toddler’s social skills as they interact with each other.

Toddler Head Teacher Responsibilities:

• Creating and Guiding toddlers through developmentally appropriate programs and activities.
• Thinking on their feet and responding to each childs needs efficiently.
• Displaying a patient and calm personality coupled with a loving approach to every child.
• Contributing positively to the behavior and social interaction of the children.
• Building secure relationships with the children and families.
• Working closely with the principal and department head to ensure that guidelines are adhered to.
• Documenting the days events for parents.
• Reporting accidents, illness, and unusual behavior of children to the principal, head of department, and parents.
• Ensuring close communication with parents throughout the day should the need arise.
• Changing diapers.

Toddler Head Teacher Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in early childhood education preferred.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Associate degree (AA or AS) in early childhood education or Child Development Associate (CDA) certification with a study plan leading to an associate's degree in early childhood education within 7 years.
• High school diploma or GED: nine college credits in early childhood; two years' experience caring for children and a study plan leading to an associate's degree in early childhood within 7 years
• CPR certified and trained.
• Complete background check including fingerprinting and health examination.
• A passion for working with babies and toddlers.
• Patient, nurturing and thoughtful.
• Good communication skills.
• Maintain discretion around children's records.
• Must be able to bend to a childs level and lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
