Position Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a critical member of the Executive Leadership Team and is responsible for overseeing all financial and compliance aspects of the organization. The CFO’s primary focus is to oversee the management of government grants and ensure full compliance with Federal, State, and local funding requirements. The CFO leads the Fiscal Department component of the organization, oversees budgeting and financial reporting, monitors all government and private contracts and grants and ensures strong internal controls. This position works closely with Executive Leadership, the Board of Directors, Program Leads, funders, and auditors to safeguard the financial health and integrity of the organization.
This is a full-time, exempt, at-will position. Occasional travel may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Leadership:
  • Advise the Executive Officers and the Board of Directors on strategic financial planning, sustainability, and risk management.
  • Oversee and monitor the Fiscal Department in developing and implementing financial policies and procedures aligned with Non-Profit best practices and government regulations.
  • Serve as a key liaison with the Treasurer of the Board of Directors to develop short- and long-term plans and projections and to ensure direction and compliance.
  • Government Grants Management & Compliance.
  • Oversee all financial aspects of government grants – Federal, State, local; including budgeting, invoicing, tracking, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with federal grant regulations, including the Uniform Requirements Administrative Requirements of each contract.
  • Monitor indirect cost recovery and allocation of shared expenses for compliance in accordance with grant requirements.
Financial Management & Reporting
  • Lead the organization’s budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes.
  • Prepare, as required, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and grant-specific reports.
  • Prepare, as required, exigent analysis and documents at the direction of the Chief Executive Officer or Board of Directors
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial data for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Audit, Risk & Internal Controls.
  • Lead the annual financial audit and single audit requirements of the organization, (if applicable), including preparation of audit schedules.
  • Act as the primary liaison with auditors.
  • Maintain effective internal controls to ensure safeguarding of assets and compliance with all funding terms.
  • Oversee risk management, including insurance coverage and financial contingency planning.
  • Team Leadership & Operations
  • Manage, in coordination with the Director- Fiscal all finance and accounting personnel and functions.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Operations on payroll, benefits, and workforce planning
  • Evaluate and enhance financial methods, systems, tools, and technologies – as necessary - to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Support fundraising and development by providing budget requirements, information and financial reports for grant proposals and funder reports.
  • Participate in policy development and implementation as a member of the executive leadership team
  • Ensure that the Fiscal Department provides clear, concise and timely financial reports and presentations for the Executive Leadership Team, Board of Directors, funders, and partners.
Qualifications :
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (required); CPA, MBA, or Master’s in Public Administration/Finance (preferred).
  • Minimum 7–10 years of senior-level financial experience, including significant experience in the understanding and managing of government grants.
  • Deep understanding of federal and state funding regulations, including 2 CFR 200 and any specific Uniform Guidance.
  • Experience in leading annual audits and managing Single Audits (A-133 audits) for federal grant recipients.
  • Proficiency in Non-Profit fund accounting and financial management systems
  • Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and equity goals of the organization
  • Occasional travel may be required for meetings, trainings, funder requirements, audits, or other business needs.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:

Work conditions may include exposure to inclement weather and noise. Position may require exposure to electronic equipment including computers, printers, fax machines, copy machines, and cleaning equipment. If the position requires use of a motor vehicle, duties may involve driving on city streets and/or highways, including in inclement weather and traffic. Employees must take all precautions and follow all applicable laws. This job requires consistent punctuality and attendance on site.
