The Division of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine and the Stony Brook University Cancer Center (SBCC) seek a board-certified or board-eligible Medical Oncologist/Clinical Researcher in the area of Gastrointestinal Cancer to join our growing cancer program. Under the leadership of a new Director, the SBCC has entered a new dynamic growth phase. Stony Brook University (SBU) and SBCC have made major institutional investments in cancer research.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic growth environment, is able to work and align interests across a multidisciplinary setting, is able and committed to designing and executing clinical trials that serve to translate cutting-edge basic research advances into humans and is committed to improving the health of people with or at risk for cancer.
Physicians interested in conducting Phase I trials are encouraged to apply. We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual with excellent leadership and organizational abilities. The successful candidate will participate in the mission of the SBCC including expansion of its clinical trial portfolio and investigator-initiated trials. The development of strong collaborative interactions with existing programs in cancer biology, metabolomics, lipidomics, cancer imaging, bioinformatics, bioengineering and chemical biology and drug discovery will be strongly encouraged. Generous support for a clinical research program will be available. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching and educational mission of the Division of Hematology/Oncology.

The successful candidate will:

Lead and develop research that expands the field.

Lead and participate in clinical studies in cancer patients.

Collaborate with clinicians, engineers, mathematicians, statisticians, and basic scientists across SBU to develop innovative therapeutic strategies.

Advance the clinical translation of novel therapeutics and imaging agents.

Pursue and maintain extramural funding (NIH, foundations, industry).

Provide mentorship and career development support for junior faculty and trainees.
The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of oncology researchers.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
-
MD, DO, or MD/PhD (or foreign equivalent).

Training and experience in medical oncology, with research experience commensurate with rank in clinical trials in the area of gastroenterological cancers.

Board Certification or eligibility in Medical Oncology.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Strong record of funded research (NIH, industry or foundation).

Experience leading clinical translation of novel therapeutics.

Evidence of effective collaboration and mentorship in a multidisciplinary research environment.
