WORK OBJECTIVE: Under the supervision of the Air Terminal Superintendent, supervises and performs work concerned with maintaining appearance and condition of the BNIA terminal.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position. - Assigns daily tasks and oversees the work of the custodial staff. The custodial staff is responsible for the cleanliness of the terminal building, parking garage and all related areas. In general, this work includes stripping/waxing floors, cleaning the bathrooms which may include plunging toilets, urinals and sinks, cleaning of airline gate areas, garbage and recycling removal, snow removal and special deep cleaning projects as needed. - Duties also include training, mentoring and supervising the custodial staff, receiving supplies. - Make minor mechanical repairs to floor equipment. - Produce daily assignment reports and serves as liaison to airport tenants and customers with regard to building and operational needs. - Performs other related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to work any shift on any day including weekends and holidays; demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to read and understand standard operating procedures and Management directives; demonstrated ability to supervise employees on a specific shift; ability to deal with occasional stressful situations as may arise; ability to interact with custodians, tenants, vendors and customers in a professional manner; ability to work outside in inclement weather; ability to operate custodial equipment, including, but not limited to floor scrubbers, buffers and vacuum cleaners; ability to operate a computer with emphasis on Windows and Lotus programs; ability to interact with other departments as required; ability to maintain effective working relationships with all employees.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in usual office conditions with rare exposure to disagreeable environmental factors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate, some secondary education in building operation or customer service areas desirable; minor mechanical and electrical troubleshooting of custodial equipment; must have a minimum of five (5) years experience in building maintenance and operations and a minimum of three (3) years experience directly supervising others; must possess a valid New York State driver's license; computer operations experience. Must be able to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge/ US Customs and Border Protection Seal.
