REACH Academy Charter School is seeking a dedicated, reflective, and student-centered Kindergarten Teacher to serve in a co-taught general education/special education classroom. The successful candidate will deliver rigorous, developmentally appropriate instruction aligned to New York State Next Generation Learning Standards while fostering a safe, inclusive, and joyful learning environment for all learners.

- Effectively execute the mission and vision of REACH Academy Charter School, including a commitment to high academic achievement, critical thinking, ethical behavior, and social-emotional development.
- Maintain a strong belief that all students, including students with disabilities and diverse learning needs, can and will achieve at high levels with appropriate support.
- Demonstrate a passion for urban education and a commitment to serving diverse student populations.
- Possess strong knowledge of New York State Next Generation Learning Standards, particularly in early literacy, numeracy, and foundational skills.
- Design and deliver developmentally appropriate, standards-aligned instruction using whole group, small group, and center-based learning structures.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English Language Learners and students with IEPs.
- Collaborate effectively in a co-teaching model, including shared planning, instruction, data analysis, and classroom management.
- Integrate instructional technology and hands-on learning materials to enhance student engagement.
- Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
- Analyze student data regularly to adjust instruction and provide targeted interventions.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Response to Intervention (RtI) and individualized support plans.
- Establish and maintain a structured, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes positive behavior, safety, and student independence.
- Implement school-wide routines, procedures, and behavioral expectations with fidelity.
- Serve as a positive role model by fostering motivation, curiosity, and a love of learning among students.
- Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with students, families, and colleagues.
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents and legal guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic needs.
- Keep accurate and up-to-date records related to attendance, assessments, lesson plans, progress reports, and report cards.
- Actively contribute to grade-level teams, special education teams, and the broader REACH school community.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills, including the ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Actively participate in professional development, instructional coaching, and collaborative planning sessions.
- Reflect on instructional practices and incorporate feedback from administrators and coaches in a timely and constructive manner.
- Uphold high standards of professionalism, ethical conduct, attendance, and punctuality.
- Show flexibility, openness to feedback, and a willingness to implement new instructional strategies and school initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare lesson plans that engage, stimulate and instruct students including small group center based instruction;
- Instruct students based on the REACH curriculum and utilize available instructional technologies in the classroom;
- Regularly evaluate student performance, and monitor for achievement of state standards;
- Act as a role model by making your students feel motivated while maintaining an approachable personality;
- Maintain up-to-date records of assessment, attendance, planning, reports, conferences, and
communication with parents;
- Regularly communicate with parents and legal guardians regarding child's performance, track and record student progress and keep records up to date for progress reports and report card conferences;
- Provide a classroom management plan ensuring safety at all times;
- Execute daily lesson plans for all assigned blocks;
- Implement all REACH routines and procedures with fidelity;
- Submit lesson plans and unit plans in a timely manner;
- Create engaging lessons and inspire students to learn;
- Have the physical and mental stamina to keep up with high-energy grade school students;
- Participate in developing and implementing RtI plans for students;
- Actively participate in all professional development and coaching sessions as well as weekly team planning;
- Incorporate feedback from coaches in a timely manner;
- Consistently analyze scholar data and engage in self-reflection on practices;
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Qualifications/Education and/or Experience
- Hold a valid New York State Birth-Grade 2 Initial or Professional Teaching Certificate, or eligibility for reciprocity.
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- Demonstrated success teaching early elementary students, preferably in an urban or inclusive setting.
- Experience with co-teaching, special education, or RtI models preferred.
- Alignment with REACH Academy Charter School's core beliefs, mission, and educational philosophy.
- Exceptions to certification requirements may be made by the Head of School in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Salary
In accordance with REACH Academy Charter School's salary step scale and verification of prior years of teaching. Step 1 starts at $45,000 and Step 11 is $65,830. You must have a valid teaching certificate to start on the salary steps or be working towards completion of certification.
