Gjelina New York is seeking an experienced and motivated Chef de Cuisine to join our culinary leadership team. Working closely with and supporting the Executive Chef , the Chef de Cuisine will play a key role in leading day-to-day kitchen operations, maintaining culinary standards, and developing a strong and collaborative kitchen team.
This is an opportunity for a hands-on culinary leader who thrives in a fast-paced, chef-driven environment and brings a strong combination of culinary skill, organization, leadership, and operational awareness.
The Chef de Cuisine will support the Executive Chef in ensuring consistent food quality, efficient service execution, and high standards across preparation, presentation, cleanliness, and kitchen operations.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Executive Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations, service, and production.
- Lead the culinary team on the floor, ensuring consistency, quality, and efficiency throughout service.
- Maintain Gjelina's culinary standards across food preparation, execution, and presentation.
- Train, coach, and develop culinary team members while fostering a collaborative and accountable kitchen culture.
- Assist with staffing, scheduling, labor management, food cost, inventory, ordering, and waste control.
- Work closely with the Executive Chef on menu execution, seasonal changes, specials, and overall culinary direction.
- Maintain high standards of food safety, sanitation, organization, and Department of Health compliance.
- Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and ongoing development of the culinary team.
- Collaborate with FOH leadership to ensure strong communication and an exceptional overall guest experience.
- Step into kitchen leadership as needed and help ensure smooth, consistent operations in the Executive Chef's absence.
- 5+ years of culinary experience , including leadership experience in a high-volume, chef-driven restaurant environment.
- Strong culinary foundation with excellent attention to quality, consistency, and detail.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, train, and develop a kitchen team.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of food cost, labor, inventory, purchasing, and kitchen financial performance.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Executive Chef and broader restaurant leadership.
- Ability to remain organized, professional, and solutions-oriented in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion for hospitality, team development, and creating exceptional dining experiences.
- NYC restaurant experience preferred.
