Job Title: Staff Accountant (Real Estate) Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join a dynamic, growing team within the real estate sector. In this role, you will play a critical part in day-to-day financial operations, property accounting, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate possesses a strong foundational knowledge of accounting principles and must have direct experience in the real estate or property management industry to seamlessly transition into our workflows. Key Responsibilities Property Accounting: Manage day-to-day accounting operations for a portfolio of properties, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and bank reconciliations. Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP. Accounts Receivable & Payable: Oversee tenant billing, rent collections, vendor payments, and expense tracking related to property operations. Lease Administration support: Review lease agreements to ensure accurate financial setups, tracking of security deposits, and escalation clauses. Variance Analysis: Compare actual property performance against budgets and provide insightful variance analysis to management. Audit & Tax Prep: Assist with year-end audit preparation and compile financial data for tax reporting. Qualifications & Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Experience: 2 years of professional accounting experience, with mandatory experience in the real estate or property management industry. Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Excel (vlookups, pivot tables) and direct experience with real estate accounting software (e.g., Yardi, AppFolio, RealPage, or MRI) is highly preferred. Knowledge: Strong understanding of GAAP, accrual-based accounting, and real estate-specific financial metrics. Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to meet tight monthly closing deadlines.
