Community school coordinator
Position Summary:
The Community School Coordinator supports the Community School Director
(CSD) to lead the integration and implementation of expanded learning and enrichment activities at the designated community school. The position will primarily work at PS 165M during the school year, though the incumbent may be asked to work from YANY’s Midtown Manhattan office on occasion.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- In partnership with the CSD, create a safe, warm, and professional learning environment for students;
- Develop professional working relationships with students, teachers, administrators, families, and YANY staff to ensure understanding of what a community school is and how it supports student achievement;
- Support CSD in administrative tasks related to programming;
- Maintain programmatic data, including weekly attendance and student information;
- Support Teaching Artists in the classroom as necessary;
- Management of inventory and supplies for programs;
- Communicate with parents/guardians around student behavior, events, and other programmatic updates;
- Support the recruitment and retention of after-school program participants;
- Assist with event planning and logistics, including flyer creation;
- Attend trainings, meetings, and school events as required by YANY and the DOE, which may include occasional evening or weekend activities.
All other responsibilities as may be assigned.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalency required, Associate’s Degree preferred
- At least two years’ experience working in educational programming for children, preferably ina school-based setting, with administrative responsibilities;
- Demonstrated commitment to expanding opportunities for children and families and a beliefin the power of the arts to transform student achievement;
- Strong organizational skills with an eye for details and a quick learner;
- Demonstrated relationship-building skills with ability to work collaboratively with school-aged youth, educators, families, and communities from a wide range of cultural, social, andeconomic backgrounds;
- Friendly, enthusiastic, and professional demeanor with a belief in a diverse workforce;
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and using databases;
- Bilingual Spanish helpful, but not required; and
- Must be fingerprinted and cleared by the NYC DOE prior to the first day of work.
Salary Range: $40,000-43,000. Salary is commensurate with experience. YANY offers a competitive benefits package including health insurance (medical, dental, vision), generous paid time off, and 403b plan participation.
