Why this Role?

Next Street is hiring a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to play a critical role in managing the firm’s financial and operational back-office functions. Your work will include maintaining the firm’s overall accounting systems, executing on day-to-day financial management duties, leading period-end closes and financial reporting needs, and managing an array of related internal operations activities. The role combines technical accuracy and attention to detail with big-picture problem-solving and a focus on continuous improvement.

Uniquely positioned within the firm, you should be equally comfortable working independently, partnering with colleagues, and interacting with executive leadership. You will have the opportunity to stretch, and we are seeking candidates with an entrepreneurial drive, a collaborative spirit, and an appetite to contribute in building the firm. This position will report to our Controller with significant day-to-day collaboration across other members of our Corporate and Executive Leadership teams.

Your work will consist of…

Finance and Accounting (80%)


  • Own all end-to-end aspects of the firm’s accounting and financial management needs

  • Annual Audit and Tax Filings (in partnership with outside firm)

  • Ongoing development, monitoring, and enforcement of proper financial policies and procedures

  • Overall maintenance and monitoring of the books, identifying unusual trends/variances and analyzing discrepancies

  • Continuous improvement and streamlining the firm’s financial operations

  • Month–end and year-end closes including preparation of consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules

  • Weekly and monthly cash planning/forecasting

  • Assists with annual firm-wide budgeting and forecasting plans

  • Ad-hoc financial and operational analyses assessing key performance metrics and risks

Compliance and Operation (20%)


  • Support additional internal operations or special project initiatives as needed

  • You have 1-3 years of financial and accounting experience with an accounting degree or a related field

  • You have experience with QuickBooks (or other accounting software) and familiarity with common business operating systems (CRM, Expense, Time Tracking, etc.)

  • You have outstanding planning, prioritization, and organization skills

  • You have the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • You have the ability to work cross functionally and with senior leadership

  • You have solid skills in Microsoft Excel

  • You have a self-starter mindset with a strong attention to detail and a problem-solving focus

  • You have a passion for continuous improvement and exploration of new operational solutions or technologies

Next Street believes in an equitable and transparent compensation approach. The starting salary for this role is $68,598 - $75,705 regardless of location and commensurate with experience. You will be eligible to participate annually in Next Street’s discretionary incentive program. For new hires, Next Street targets the start of the salary band, although considerations could be made based on job knowledge, skills, and experience. As part of our Antiracism commitment , Next Street uses a pay scale approach and transparent methodology to advance staff within a compensation band based on performance.
