Impact Operations Reporting Analyst

We are seeking an Impact Operations & Reporting Analyst to join its growing Impact Team, which is responsible for capturing and communicating the reach and real-world outcomes of AP’s grant supported journalism. The Impact Operations & Reporting Analyst will play a key supporting role in delivering on APFJ’s core impact responsibilities, with a particular focus on project management, cross-functional coordination, and reporting execution.
Working closely with the Manager of Impact & Engagement, this role helps ensure that impact frameworks, tools and reports are implemented effectively and consistently across APFJ’s grant-supported journalism projects. This is a highly collaborative role that interacts with editorial, digital, fundraising and development teams to keep impact deliverables on track and well-communicated to internal and external audiences.
This role combines elements of storytelling and data handling, helping translate impact and engagement data into clean, compelling reports for external and internal stakeholders, while also refining the systems that make this possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Project manage impact deliverables by tracking timelines, coordinating team inputs and maintaining reporting calendars to ensure all impact reports are delivered on time and to standard.
- Help draft funder-facing impact reports and internal updates; synthesize input from team members into cohesive documents and visuals.
- Maintain impact tracking systems, templates and presentation materials (in SharePoint, PowerPoint, etc.) to support consistency across grants.
- Support data reporting by collaborating with team members to gather key metrics and transform them into understandable formats for both internal and external audiences.
- Support on special projects as needed, whether piloting a new reporting workflow, supporting a grant renewal process, or organizing feedback sessions with internal stakeholders.
Ideal Qualifications
- 3 years minimum of experience in nonprofit communications, project coordination, or program reporting roles.
- Demonstrated success in managing projects and aligning multiple contributors toward a common deadline.
- Experience creating reports, pitch decks or narrative summaries for external stakeholders. Experience writing for funders or philanthropic audiences is strongly preferred.
- Strong writing, editing and document organization skills, particularly for funder-facing or stakeholder communications.
- Familiarity with data tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Parse.ly, spreadsheets, dashboards).
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
- Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English.

Salary & Benefits
- This position is temporary and is anticipated to run for a duration of two years.
- This position is hybrid where an AP office is located, with preference for candidates in Chicago or New York, and remote for all other candidates.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $71,000-$90,000, contingent on experience, location and other job-related factors. Employees are eligible to participate, according to the terms of the official plan documents, in a 401(k) plan, employer-sponsored health insurance plan, and are eligible for paid time off and holidays in accordance with APFJ policy.

The AP Fund for Journalism was created by The Associated Press in 2024 to support public service journalism and make it accessible to state and local news organizations in the U.S. APFJ’s ambition is to underpin and support the U.S. news ecosystem by ensuring news services and widespread access to reliable, nonpartisan and fact-based news and information in underserved issue areas, including but not limited to state and local news. APFJ also supports journalism in topical areas, like health, democracy, education and climate.
