ABOUT SEMM
SEMM is a modern oasis — a reimagined “healing well” — in NYC blending east and west, tradition and modernity, working with artists and designers across various mediums. Our mission is to establish SEMM as a communal home where nourishing food, drinks, art, craft and design inspire a tranquil depth in conversations and friendship. Embodying the ‘dado’ philosophy of tea and food as medicine, SEMM focuses on natural ingredients, fermentation and seasonal ingredients as a foundation to the menu. During the day, SEMM is a Korean-inspired tea house and cafe At night SEMM evolves into a listening lounge + wine/sool bar with tea-infused cocktails.

ROLE SUMMARY
-You are the first presence our guests encounter at SEMM.
-You will execute our specialty coffee and Korean tea program with precision and genuine warmth — understanding that pulling a shot or preparing tea here is an extension of the space and its values.
-You will also handle front-of-house cashiering, ensuring every interaction reflects SEMM’s calm, intentional hospitality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
-Execute espresso-based drinks and specialty tea brewing with consistency and care.
-Prepare tea and pour-over coffee across a rotating menu of washed, natural, geisha, anaerobic, and co-fermented varietals
-Assist with tea ceremony set service when needed
-Operate Square POS accurately for all transactions
-Guide guests through the menu with genuine knowledge and unhurried hospitality
-Maintain a clean, organized, and aesthetically intentional bar and front-of-house area
-Support the smooth daytime-to-evening transition as the space shifts from cafe to wine lounge

REQUIREMENTS
-1–3 years of specialty coffee experience required
-Strong espresso and milk technique; pour-over experience a plus
-Comfort with Square POS or similar systems
-A warm, unhurried presence — our guests come to SEMM to slow down
-Genuine curiosity about Korean culture, tea traditions, and food-as-medicine philosophy
-Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
-Availability including mornings, weekends, and holidays
