Pipe Welder

Pay: 25-35/hr. + 10% shift differential for 2nd shift

Shifts:

• 1st: 7am to 3:30pm (Mon-Fri)
• 2nd: 2:30pm to 11pm (Mon-Fri)

Requirements:

• HS Diploma or GED
• 2+ years of welding work experience
• Knowledge and experience in primarily Spray GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), weld prep and plasma cutting.
• Experience operating bridge cranes and forklift trucks preferred.
• Must successfully complete a pre-employment weld test.
• Welding Certification from a recognized institution (preferred)

Responsibilities:

• Spray GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), weld prep and plasma cutting.
• Cut, bend, drill, tap, and similar operations as required to fabricate intricate assemblies.
• Operate bridge cranes and forklift trucks.
• Must be able to read engineering fabrication drawings, layout, and weld structural fabrications.
• Must follow written procedures and work instructions.
• As an employee, you must maintain an average weld efficiency rating of 70% or better. The rating is based on historical data
• Proper utilization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Work within the scope of MWI's safety policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

1. who will be the point of contact for all candidate submissions ? Carolyn Gamberutti & Roberta Cross (copied on this email)
2. Who will the candidate be interviewing with and how quickly is your company willing to interview ? QA Manager, Sr. QC Inspector (for weld test) – interviews usually same week that we see the resume
3. what does the interview process look like ? Is it an in person then a weld test a different day or is it all done in 1 day? In person interview, typically interview and test on same day. Sometimes candidates come back for the weld test.
4. What is the welding tests that they will perform? GTAW IN 6G, FCAW IN 3G, AND GMAW IN 3G
5. How will the metal be tested? Visual , ultrasound , x ray ? liquid penetrant ? Bend testing ? VISUAL AND BEND EXAMS
6. is an ASME certification required before coming in? Or is this preferred? Not required? Previous ASME IX qualifications is preferred
7. how important is navsea familiarization for candidates? NOT REQUIRED
8. is there a drug test and background check ? If so, what type of drug test and how long back is the background ? We check references currently only.
9. what type of metal will they be working with? Carbon and stainless steels
10. what welding processes are most important I saw gtaw and gmaw on the posting. Will you take a proficient tig welder who isn't good with mig and vice versa? Or do they have to be proficient in both? Prefer proficient in both not required
11. what type of fabrication equipment will they be using ? I see Cut, bend, drill, tap, and similar operations as required to fabricate intricate assemblies.

Will they need experience with any specific metals in fabrication? Sheet metal? Structural, stainless? Aluminum? Carbon and stainless steel

1. are you open to just a welder or just a fabricator or do all 6 positions have to be able to both weld and fabricate? Both
