Job Title: Mental Therapy Aide

Location: Syracuse, NY

Duration: 15 Weeks

Shift: Day Shift

• 2x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
• 2x8-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 3:00 PM)
• Every other weekend required

Position Overview

A reputable healthcare facility is seeking a compassionate and dependable Mental Therapy Aide to support patients in a psychiatric care setting. The ideal candidate will assist in both direct and indirect patient care while promoting a safe, therapeutic environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect care to patients under nursing supervision
• Monitor and record vital signs
• Assist with patient admissions and documentation
• Support physical examinations and collect specimens
• Monitor patient intake and output
• Transport patients as needed
• Assist patients with hygiene and daily living activities
• Orient patients to unit routines and regulations
• Develop therapeutic relationships and engage patients in activities
• Intervene in crisis situations and report changes in patient condition
• Maintain a safe and supportive environment
• Perform routine safety checks during assigned shifts
• Communicate patient updates accurately to nursing staff

Experience & Skills Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience working with psychiatric patient populations preferred
• Knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Good organizational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to respond effectively in crisis situations

Additional Requirements

• Must pass pre-employment health clearance
• Ability to work flexible shifts including weekends
• Commitment to patient safety, dignity, and confidentiality
