Location: Stony Brook, New York
Open Date: Jan 15, 2026
Deadline: Apr 15, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

Description
The Division of Cardiology at The Heart Institute, Stony Brook University Hospital, seeks a full-time academic clinical cardiologist to lead an outpatient-based Urgent Cardiac Consultation program. This role is designed for a clinician-educator or clinician-investigator who is enthusiastic about building a same-day and rapid-access cardiology service for patients with acute but typically non-emergent cardiovascular concerns. Clinical effort, program leadership, and academic activities will be tailored to align with individual strengths, subspecialty interests, and long-term career goals, with opportunities to integrate preventive cardiology, imaging, and disease-specific expertise.
  • You will be part of a collegial, innovative, nationally recognized, and award-winning faculty committed to excellence in patient care, mentoring, and teaching. We serve a population of 1.7 million people in Suffolk County, with additional patients from the tri-state region. Stony Brook University Hospital has been ranked among the top 100 Hospitals for cardiac care by Healthgrades since 2016.
  • Work alongside nationally recognized experts and outstanding mentors in a top 100, outcomes-driven Heart Institute with centers of excellence, premier fellowship training, and active research programs.
  • Lead and grow an Outpatient Urgent Cardiac Consultation Program that provides same-day and rapid-access evaluation for patients with active cardiovascular symptoms (for example, new or worsening chest pain, dyspnea, palpitations, abnormal ECGs, elevated biomarkers, perioperative concerns) who can be safely managed without routine Emergency Department use.
  • Design and implement standardized triage pathways, algorithms, and communication channels with primary care, ED, hospital services, and community cardiologists to reduce avoidable ED visits and admissions while improving safety, access, and patient experience.
  • Provide high-quality ambulatory cardiovascular care within Heart Institute faculty practices, with a customized balance of urgent access clinic, longitudinal follow-up, and selected inpatient consultative responsibilities based on the candidate's interests and expertise.
  • For candidates with appropriate training and certification, incorporate protected and integrated time for echocardiography (TTE/TEE), cardiac CT and MRI, and collaboration with structural heart, electrophysiology, heart failure, and ACHD programs to support rapid diagnostic decision-making within the urgent access model.
  • Teach and mentor fellows, residents, APPs, and medical students in contemporary evaluation of acute cardiac presentations, clinical decision-making, and systems-based practice; engage in quality improvement, outcomes research, or implementation science focused on urgent cardiac care and care pathways.
  • Thrive in a supportive environment that prioritizes mentorship, sustainable work-life balance, leadership development, and flexible, team-based scheduling to foster long-term career growth.
  • Enjoy competitive academic salaries, productivity incentives, a comprehensive benefits package, eligibility for loan forgiveness programs, and structured mentoring for academic promotion.
  • Only a car or train ride from New York City, Long Island offers outstanding quality of life, excellent schools, diverse communities, outdoor recreation, and vibrant cultural opportunities suitable for individuals and families.
  • New graduates with strong clinical skills and a systems-focused mindset, as well as experienced cardiologists seeking to lead or redesign access and triage models, are encouraged to apply.
