Barista
Teabowl is a design-forward matcha bar in the West Village, created by the team behind Silence Please, a hi-fi listening studio in Lower Manhattan. Rooted in ritual, sound, and deep attention, Teabowl is where we hone our approach to matcha and craft beverages: care, precision, and intention are at the forefront.
We’re seeking passionate, skilled baristas to join our team. This role begins at Teabowl, where you’ll deepen your matcha knowledge and refine your craft. Over time, team members may have the opportunity to support shifts and events at Silence Please, assisting with listening sessions and brand experiences.
If you care about detail, hospitality, and creating thoughtful, slow-paced spaces — we’d love to meet you.
Responsibilities
- Prepare high-quality matcha and other craft beverages with consistency and precision
- Dial in and execute espresso-based drinks
- Provide warm, attentive customer service while maintaining a calm, welcoming atmosphere
- Share the Teabowl and Silence Please brand story with guests in an authentic, thoughtful way
- Set the tone of the space daily (music, lighting, cleanliness, overall vibe)
- Open and close the bar with attention to detail
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace and meet NYC DOH standards at all times
- Handle POS transactions accurately
- Assist with restocking, light prep, and inventory management
- Occasionally support events, listening sessions, and small brand activations at Silence Please
Qualifications
- Passion for matcha and craft beverages (required)
- 1–2+ years of barista or hospitality experience (required)
- NYC Food Handler’s Certificate (required)
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to read a room — knowing when to engage and when to give space
- Attention to detail in drink preparation, presentation, and environment
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work weekends and occasional evenings
- Ability to stand for 7–8 hours and lift up to 40 lbs
- Eligible to work in the United States
Curiosity about sound, music, design, or ritual is a strong plus. You don’t need to be an expert, but you should be excited to learn and represent the brand with care.
Growth Opportunity
Teabowl is where our team builds deep knowledge of matcha and hospitality. As we expand into more events, collaborations, and product launches, there is room to grow within the broader Silence Please / Teabowl universe.
