Summary: Oliver Scholars seeks a learning skills specialist, executive function coach, SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) facilitator, or culturally responsive educator with experience supporting the academic and emotional development of adolescents. We also welcome applicants with backgrounds in counseling, social work, or DEI who have experience delivering youth development workshops or academic coaching. The instructor s primary objective is to plan and implement a youth development curriculum for eighth-grade students to prepare them to succeed at rigorous independent schools. Students should gain improved competency, skills, and habits of mind to excel. The instructor will assist the Admissions & Placement, as well as the Academic Affairs, departments in defining expected curricular outcomes and tracking student progress. This position reports to the Director of Academic Affairs and is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of scholarship and youth development with an educational nonprofit organization.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
  • Teach in person Saturdays, September to November 2025, and be available for office hours, study hall, and faculty meetings on scheduled class days.
  • Be available for one-on-one or small group advisories and check-ins during the day when not teaching.In consultation with the Director of Academic Affairs, develop the 8th-grade pro-social youth development curriculum.
  • The instructor will utilize case studies and workshop-style classes to deliver both social-emotional and cognitive learning supports, preparing students for high school success.Integrate social-emotional learning with metacognitive training to promote self-awareness, emotional regulation, and academic confidence in students navigating rigorous academic spaces.
  • Strength-based learning (e.g., leveraging strong visual-spatial skills to support weaker verbal reasoning).Executive function development (e.g., supporting students with slow processing speed or weak working memory using planners, chunked instructions, and visual timers).
  • Self-advocacy and goal-setting aligned with individual learning profiles provided by Oliver Scholars.Manage the classroom using positive classroom management skills.
  • Write detailed Interim and Final Evaluation Reports.Attend a paid instructor orientation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree in psychology, education, social work, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.Two or more years of experience teaching and/or mentoring adolescentsCurriculum development a plus
  • Knowledge of independent schools preferred.
  • Outstanding speaking, writing, and editing skills.
  • Deep knowledge of the principles of teaching students
  • A mission-driven individual with a belief in and commitment to Oliver s mission and values
  • A flexible, creative individual able to find alternative ways to connect with students.
  • Emotionally mature with a good sense of humor and the flexibility and sensitivity to work with diverse personalities and situations.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary range: $3,600 to $5,400.

Two or more years of teaching experience at the middle school or high school level
Two or more years of experience designing curriculum
In Person Saturday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
Knowledge in: Speaking, writing and editing skills
Knowledge in: Google Suites
