Development Manager - True Crime & Nonfiction Programming

Job DescriptionOverview of the RoleOur well-known entertainment media client is seeking a Development Manager to join its creative team supporting the programming and development of true-crime and nonfiction content . This role will support the development of original programming by coordinating submissions, managing editorial integrity, and collaborating with producers, agents, and internal departments. The ideal candidate will bring deep genre expertise, creative vision, and strong industry relationships to help shape compelling content for both digital and linear platforms.The BasicsDuration: 6-monthsHours: 40 hours/week (Occasional weekend or off-hours work may be required with prior approval)Location: Hybrid - 3 days onsite in New York City, 2 days remoteTop 3 Required QualificationsTrue-Crime & Nonfiction Expertise: Minimum 3 years of experience developing content in true-crime, documentary, reality, drama, or informational genres for digital and linear platformsCreative Development Skills: Proven ability to generate, solicit, and develop original programming ideas from concept to greenlightIndustry Relationships: Established network of agents, producers, filmmakers, and production companiesOther QualificationsStrong editorial judgment and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyExceptional research and marketplace awarenessExcellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and analytical skillsBachelor's degree or equivalent experience requiredPortfolio or examples of past projects preferredKey ResponsibilitiesTrack and manage submissions, concepts, and pilots to ensure alignment with editorial standardsCollaborate with research teams to test pilot concepts and maintain information flow throughout developmentField inquiries from producers, agents, and filmmakers regarding programming needsReview proposals, budgets, sample materials, and production schedulesDevelop original programming ideas and write requests for proposalsParticipate in group development meetings and provide editorial inputBuild and maintain relationships with creative partners and stakeholdersConduct deep research to support internally generated programming initiativesContribute to brainstorming sessions and team-wide development effortsIn this position, you may have access to client or customer systems, confidential and/or proprietary information or data.
