Autism Support Professional / Community Habilitation DSP - $34/hr - Full Time (Queens, NY)

Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, energetic, and reliable Community Habilitation (Com Hab) Direct Support Professional to support a friendly and lovable 12-year-old boy with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

This position focuses on helping the participant develop communication, social, safety, and daily living skills while engaging in fun and meaningful activities both at home and in the community.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, is patient, active, and comfortable providing one-to-one support in community settings.

Duties

• Provide one-to-one supervision and support during community and recreational activities.
• Assist with communication development by encouraging functional communication, expressing wants and needs, and appropriate interactions with others.
• Support development of social skills, including: Appropriate greetings, Personal space awareness, Peer interactions, Community behavior.
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including: Hand washing, Personal hygiene routines, Dressing and grooming, Following daily routines.
• Support participation in recreational activities, community outings, parks, fitness programs, classes, and other age-appropriate activities.
• Teach and reinforce safety skills, including: Street safety, Community awareness, Identifying trusted adults, Following directions during emergencies.
• Help reduce unsafe behaviors through redirection, positive reinforcement, and consistent support.
• Accompany participant to community activities and appointments as needed.
• Maintain accurate documentation of services provided and participant progress.
• Communicate professionally with parents, supervisors, and members of the support team.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder strongly preferred.
• Background in Special Education, ABA, Psychology, Human Services, Child Development, Direct Support, Teaching Assistant, Paraprofessional, Camp Counselor, or related fields is a plus.
• Patient, energetic, dependable, and compassionate.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to remain attentive and engaged throughout shifts.
• Ability to support community outings and recreational activities.
• Driver's license preferred but not required.
