What is an Director – Electric substation Engineering & Drafting?
The Director – Electric Substation Engineering & Drafting supervises Central Hudson’s substation engineering teams with primary responsibilities for Electric System Protection (ESP) and Electric Substation Design (ESD). This individual has additional responsibility for Engineering Drafting.
What does an Director – Electric substation Engineering & Drafting do?
»Effectively manages and leads a team of substation engineering professionals and engineering drafters.
»Development and support of the execution of the Capital Budget.
»Develops, coordinates, and manages annual expense plans and strives to reduce costs and remain on budget.
»Identifies and implements appropriate changes to existing processes that foster continuous improvement in productivity and development of individuals, work groups, and division performance.
»Completes assigned reports, goals, objectives, and special assignments on schedule through the appropriate use of corporate assets and control of costs.
»Provides leadership abilities and guidance for employee development and training within the groups including input into the development of area succession plans.
»Develops and fosters relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to obtain and share information that will benefit the company; shares best practices, provides, and obtains technical advice, and builds bases of influence.
»Remains current with technology, policy developments, and industry practices, and contributes to the Company’s strategic planning process.
»Supports storm/emergency restoration efforts.
What does it take to be an Director – Electric substation Engineering & Drafting?
Required:
»Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 10+ years of related engineering/utility practice
»Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the capability to lgain new computer software programs quickly
»Must have a thorough technical knowledge of the utility electric systems, including the equipment that is utilized, control schemes, regulatory requirements, and needs for future expansions.
»Must be knowledgeable of the design and the operation of the electric systems and possess a relatively broad knowledge of the goals and objectives of other company groups that interact with this organization.
»Possess the capability to work well as leader of a cross functional team, and a motivation to accomplish assigned tasks and seek out opportunities for learning.

»Significant knowledge of industry technologies, operating practices, and electric engineering theory
»Fundamental knowledge and/or knowledge of Central Hudson’s business operations and practices
»Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication expertise

»Must demonstrate a high level of intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm, and promote a strong work ethic and positive customer service approach
»Must be willing to respond to all requests to work outside of normal business hours.
»Must be able to travel as required (e.g. Albany, New York City, etc.).
»Valid driver’s license

»Master’s degree/MBA
