Recreation Specialist
Overview
Under the direction of the Director of Recreation, assists in the development and implementation of a comprehensive recreation program for residents in conformity with residents needs and rules of regulatory body. Flexible hours required, including availcapability for weekends.Responsibilities
• Conduct an assessment with each resident to identify residents' needs, interests and expertise for an individualized program plan.• Develop and implement services including group programs and one to one interventions for each resident of assigned unit within the context of the resident's comprehensive assessment and care plan• Maintain documentation such as assessments, progress notes, MDS, care plans and everyday charting.• Assist Director in evaluating the efficacy and effectiveness of recreational interventions in relation to resident's needs• Participate in interdisciplinary care team meetings and ensure that recreation plan conforms to overall interdisciplinary Care Plan.• provide direction to the nursing staff in providing with physical, cognitive, emotional/behavioral, leisure and social interventions to residents.• Assist in development and maintenance of department quality assurance program.• Assist Director in education and direction of Recreation Leaders.• Supervise/ direct of assigned volunteers.• Maintains adequate amount of supplies and equipment.• In the absence of the Director, is responsible to the Senior Recreation Specialist for the everyday operation of the department.• Participates in staff development program including attendance at mandatory education program.• Complies with guidelines of the HAZCOM program• Participates, as assigned, in Nursing Home Committees.• In the spirit of cooperation and in response to resident needs, it may be necessary to execute other related tasks as requested and unrelated tasks in case of emergency.Qualifications
Education Requirements
• A.A. degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field with practice in institutional or community programs.practice Requirements
• One or more years practice working with specialized population or institutional or community programs.practice Desired
• * expertise of Alzheimer's disease and other Dementias preferred.License Requirements

• Demonstrates strong expertise in assessing the needs of the older adult and developing interventions to meet those needs.• Work in a collaborative effort with employees within the department and in other departments.• Interested in self development.• Must possess the capability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors and government agencies / personnel and the general public.• Creative and energetic• capability to understand and communicate in the English language, both oral and written• Effective oral and written communication expertise• Must be flexible, have time management and organizational expertise• Computer expertise desirable.Recommended Jobs
