Senior Bookkeeper
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Small hospitality group is looking for an experienced Senior Bookkeeper/Analyst to join our team. The Senior Bookkeeper/Analyst will be responsible for the oversight of our general accounting operations by controlling and verifying our financial transactions, generating fiscal reports, maintaining the company’s budgets while finding new ways to improve the Finance department. The Senior Bookkeeper/Analyst will also manage the budget process, coordinate and prepare internal and external financial statements, legal fiscal compliance and acting as the primary liaison for external auditors.
A successful Senior Bookkeeper/Analyst combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. Upon successful execution of the role, the Senior Bookkeeper/Analyst will be on track to become the primary Financial Controller of the company, working to maintain and be responsible for the Finance department while advising the Owner & Leadership Team of all financial-related matters in the business.
This is a full-time, in person position starting at $70K plus a discretionary bonus structure. Our office is located in the East Village. We offer 401K, commuter benefits, PTO and discounted meals at all of our bars/restaurants.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Work with Bookkeeper in preparation and review of daily & monthly journal entries in Quickbooks
- Performing and reviewing balance sheet and profit and loss reconciliations including the investigation of variances
- Reviewing revenue and expense results for month-end close financial reporting
- Assisting with quarterly inter-company reconciliations
- Providing support with external and internal audits
- Responsible for all cash flow management of the company & smaller properties; record all cash transactions in cash ledgers.
- Manage and upkeep Manager & Chef payout system; compile and pay out all expense reports
- Oversee and manage the staff bookkeeper; assign duties as assigned and relevant to finance department
- Work with Office Manager in implementation and maintenance of Traditional/Non-Traditional Payroll, 401K and Health Insurance policies/procedures from a financial perspective
- Monitor company credit card transactions across all restaurants/bars; approve/deny transaction requests as necessary
- Ensure company is compliant with all tax preparation and reporting when applicable.
- Liaise with relevant financial third party entities including: external auditors, tax/financial advisers, vendors.
- Respond to all federal, state and local financial notices.
- Work with Owner to troubleshoot and plan debt management and collection efforts.
- Work in an advisory capacity with Owner on potential new projects and efforts from a financial perspective.
- Manage storage and destruction of credit card receipts.
- Investigate and respond to all chargeback and sales slip requests
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong organizational skills
- Extremely detailed-oriented
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to work independently, prioritize and accomplish tasks with minimal directions
- Prior Quickbooks and Excel knowledge
- At least 3 years of bookkeeping experience - prior experience with a restaurant/hospitality company preferred, but not required
- Able to multitask and follow directions
- Strong time management skills
- Have prior knowledge and experience in the hospitality industry
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Resourceful, efficient, and reliable
- Excellent decision-making skills and follow-through
