Advanced Lead Engineer - Nondestructive Evaluation - Aerospace Research
- Work with business partners and customers to define nondestructive evaluation requirements and develop solutions to support GE Aerospace products and services.
- Apply experimental and analytical skills to design, build, and test nondestructive evaluation components and systems.
- Design and implement tools for data acquisition and analysis leveraging principles of instrumentation, classic signal processing, computer vision, AI, and scientific machine learning to solve GE Aerospace's inspection needs.
- Develop simulation models to design and analyze the performance of nondestructive evaluation systems.
- Design and perform experiments to optimize inspection systems and methods and conduct shop testing to characterize part and process capabilities.
- Define scope, technical approach, and action plans for projects, and work directly with business partners and customers to track progress toward project deliverables and budgets.
- Participate in shaping new ideas, generating intellectual property, and securing internal and external funding to execute them.
- Collaborate broadly inside the company to develop and implement actionable multi-year technology strategy for nondestructive evaluation.
- Provide technical coaching and contribute to the development and growth of others.
- Effectively communicate results and recommendations by preparing written reports and delivering oral presentations.
- Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Physics or related field with at least 3 years of relevant experience, Master's degree in the desired fields with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's degree in the desired fields with at least 7 years of relevant experience.
- Expertise in one or more NDE techniques, including Ultrasound, Thermography, and X-ray, with demonstrated ability to quickly learn and make technical contributions to the other techniques.
- Proficiency in the design, development, and testing of NDE systems and procedures
- Proficient in at least one of the following programming languages Python, C#, MATLAB, or LabVIEW
- Expertise in signal and image processing, computer vision, AI, and the principles of scientific machine learning.
- Demonstrated ability to independently perform analytical and laboratory research work.
- US Citizenship is required.
- Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
- Must be willing to take a drug test and submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process.
- Experience in hardware-software system integration and the design and fabrication of digital and analogue electronics.
- Experience with deep learning frameworks, such as PyTorch and Tensorflow.
- Knowledge in the development of factory automation and robotic tools.
- Working knowledge of commercially existing NDE systems and experience in developing make/buy strategies for projects
- Experience in writing external proposals and executing government funded programs.
- A record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
- Strong influencing skills with customers, senior leadership, and project teams.
- Highly innovative, self-motivated, and able to conduct research independently.
- Excellent team working ability, communication skills, and flexibility.
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment and partner with other organizations to execute research projects.
