Test Engineer

Job Summary :
Performs test lab initiatives for the qualification of products for safety, performance, and reliability under the direction of the engineering team. Performs and documents qualification tests for new and/or modified products or product components. Selects and specifies test equipment and procedures; conducts tests and experiments; records, evaluates, and analyzes data; and reports findings.
Essential Functions:
· Performs test lab activities to ensure safe, accurate & timely completion of product qualification testing; monitors and controls lab test activities to maintain an organized and productive lab workspace.
· Reviews and understands electrical safety standards from UL, CSA, IEC, and other domestic and international agencies. Performs testing in accordance with the standards as a part of pre-compliance qualification or data submittal programs.
· Operates and maintains equipment and instruments needed for laboratory use; identifies & develops standard and specialized test methods & procedures for product qualification testing to validate product safety, performance, and reliability.
· Works with engineers to conceptualize, develop, and verify new test methods to support product, sub-system, or component development. This applies to product development, compliance, and reliability-related testing.
· Maintains standard test procedures for review with auditing bodies such as UL, Intertek, or NSF. Manages technical communication with third-party certification bodies.
· Conducts various tests or experiments, including completion and modification of test setups or procedures; operates standard test equipment and units under test.
· Constructs components, assemblies, models, or adapts standard equipment when necessary. Investigates and resolves operational problems associated with the unit under test and/or the test set-up.
· Participates in the development and refinement of product designs through design reviews and interaction with Engineering staff. Conducts testing, advises, and writes reports to support the DVP&R process for development projects.
· Provides technical and other progress reports as required via written communication and oral presentations.
Requirements
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology preferred or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
· A minimum of 5 - 10 years of professional electromechanical or electronics experience in a manufacturing or laboratory environment.
· Intermediate to advanced understanding of electromechanical control systems, components, and troubleshooting techniques.
· Demonstrated experience working with both AC (single and 3-phase) and DC power in machinery or appliances and associated safety practices.
· Demonstrated product qualification testing knowledge and experience; product safety, performance, and reliability test procedures and processes.
· Experience conducting safety compliance in appliances or a similar industry a plus.
· Ability to create, perform, and document test plans and procedures.
· Knowledge and experience with relevant product electrical and mechanical safety and performance test standards and regulations for the U.S. and global marketplace such as UL, NSF, CE, DOE, AHRI/ASHRAE, etc.
· Knowledge and experience with refrigeration systems, operational theory, practical application, safety, and troubleshooting a plus.
· Laboratory quality management system experience to ISO/IEC Standard 17025 a plus.
· Knowledgeable & proficient in the use of data collection systems, and measurement of pressure, temperature, force, current, voltage, frequency, power, etc.
· Working knowledge of NI LabView package a plus.
· Demonstrates a willingness to learn new (and existing) tools and methods for application that will benefit the Follett product development process.
· Proficient in PC use and spreadsheet/database software.
· Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office.
