Duration: 13 weeks with possible extension
Pay & Compensation:
Local pay rate: $81 to $85 per hour
Travel pay package: $3600 to $3700 weekly gross
Job Summary:
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for ordering, preparing, and administering radiopharmaceutical materials to patients. This role involves operating gamma cameras and thyroid uptake/probe devices to visualize both the structure and function of major organ systems. The technologist applies expertise in radiation physics and safety in the preparation, measurement, and administration of isotopes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform nuclear medicine procedures including SPECT and SPECT/CT imaging.
- Participate in Radiology Management System functions related to patient procedures.
- Adhere to radiation safety practices for patients and coworkers.
- Maintain required documentation for licensing agencies.
- Educate patients regarding procedures as needed.
- Properly handle and dispose of radioactive waste materials.
- Communicate effectively with referring physicians, radiologists, and other department stakeholders.
- Prepare image data for interpretation, including documentation, processing, formatting, calculations, and reconstruction.
- Comply with federal and state guidelines, specifically NY Department of Health regulations.
- Order, receive, document, store, and return radiopharmaceuticals per regulatory standards.
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals with precision and document all activities.
- Transfer and retrieve image data to PACS and document studies in EPIC.
- Conduct and document routine quality control checks on equipment as per ACR standards.
- Report deviations promptly to relevant personnel.
- Start intravenous catheter lines, inject radioisotopes, and remove IVs competently.
- Follow all hospital safety, infection control, fire, and disaster protocols.
- Maintain patient and hospital confidentiality at all times.
- Complete other duties as assigned.

Education and Certifications:
- Required: Associate’s degree in applied science in Nuclear Medicine
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Medicine
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- NYS Radiologic Technologist license in Nuclear Medicine
- NMTCB or ARRT(N) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross)

- Biodex Dose calibrator
- EPIC, NMIS, Xeleris systems
