Construction Inspection Resident Engineer
What you'll be able to do:
We are seeking an experienced Resident Engineer / Bridge Inspector to lead field and administrative oversight for a bridge-only construction project in Syracuse, NY, starting in Spring 2025. This position is ideal for a senior-level professional with at least 15 years of bridge inspection and construction oversight experience. The successful candidate will manage daily field operations and project administration to ensure that construction is completed in accordance with the contract plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
Key Responsibilities:
Construction Oversight:
• Serve as the on-site Resident Engineer, overseeing all bridge construction activities.
• Monitor contractor work for compliance with design documents, safety protocols, and scheduling requirements.
• Conduct detailed field inspections and resolve construction-related issues in real time.
• Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, design engineers, and public agency representatives to ensure smooth project execution.
• Promote and enforce safety standards in accordance with OSHA and project-specific guidelines.
Project Administration:
• Maintain a detailed daily diary documenting field activity, weather conditions, labor and equipment, and any notable events or delays.
• Chair progress meetings, including agenda preparation, minute-taking, and action item tracking.
• Process monthly contractor estimates and ensure quantities are verified against field measurements.
• Review and approve contractor submittals, RFI responses, and change order documentation.
• Monitor and track project schedule, budget, and materials delivery.
• Utilize NYSDOT Site Manager or similar platforms to document inspections, track quantities, and manage correspondence.
• Coordinate materials testing, shop drawing reviews, and specification compliance.
• Ensure timely submission of reports, updates, and documentation to all stakeholders.
The minimum requirements we seek:
• Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in bridge inspection and construction oversight (required)
• NICET Level IV certification in Transportation/Highway Construction (preferred)
• Experience with New York State DOT bridge projects strongly preferred
• Familiarity with NYSDOT Site Manager or similar project documentation systems
• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician and OSHA 10 certifications (preferred)
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred; equivalent experience considered)
• Strong knowledge of NYSDOT standards, specifications, and documentation protocols
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to and from construction sites in the Syracuse area
