Commercial Electrical Foreman
MalaceHR is seeking an experienced Commercial Electrical Foreman to lead electrical installation, repair, and maintenance projects within commercial environments. This role is responsible for supervising electrical crews, ensuring projects are completed safely and efficiently, and providing hands-on technical expertise for electrical systems, equipment, and power distribution.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in commercial electrical work, experience leading field personnel, and the ability to troubleshoot, install, and maintain a wide range of electrical systems while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee commercial electrical installation, repair, and maintenance projects.
- Supervise, train, and mentor electricians and apprentices assigned to projects.
- Install, repair, and maintain electrical systems including:
- Wiring and circuits
- Motors
- Transformers
- Generators
- Lighting systems
- Appliances
- Electrical equipment and components
- Troubleshoot electrical malfunctions using a variety of electrical testing equipment.
- Perform electrical testing, diagnostics, and repairs to ensure systems are operating properly.
- Review and interpret blueprints, electrical drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine project requirements and installation procedures.
- Repair and maintain high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems.
- Troubleshoot, test, and repair emergency generators and power distribution systems.
- Determine required materials and assist with project planning and cost estimation.
- Ensure all electrical work complies with electrical codes, standards, regulations, and project specifications.
- Coordinate daily crew activities and assign work to maintain productivity and project schedules.
- Maintain quality control and ensure installations meet customer expectations.
- Promote and enforce OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and proper PPE usage.
- Coordinate with customers, general contractors, subcontractors, and other trades to ensure successful project completion.
- Maintain accurate job documentation and reporting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an electrical apprenticeship program required .
- Trade school or technical electrical training preferred.
- 4–7 years of experience as an electrician in commercial or industrial environments.
- Previous experience leading electrical crews or serving as a foreman preferred.
- Journeyman Electrician License or state-required electrical license preferred.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of commercial electrical systems and installation practices.
- Understanding of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
- Knowledge of high-voltage and low-voltage electrical applications.
- Ability to install, repair, and maintain various electrical system equipment and components.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical systems and diagnosing equipment failures.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and work orders.
- Knowledge of electrical tools, equipment, and materials commonly used in the electrical trade.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to work effectively with a crew.
- Ability to train and mentor apprentices and less experienced electricians.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple project requirements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while providing effective team leadership.
- Strong understanding of commercial construction practices, tools, and materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
- Experience with emergency power systems, generators, and power distribution.
- Experience with commercial lighting systems, controls, and electrical equipment.
- Familiarity with construction scheduling and project management software.
- Experience coordinating work with multiple trades and subcontractors.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in commercial construction and facility environments.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to work at elevated heights and around electrical equipment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely operate electrical testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
- Ability to wear and properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE).
