Engineering Manager

Verse Medical
New York, NY
Our Mission: Hospital-Quality Care, Everywhere.

The healthcare industry still relies on faxes and phone tag to coordinate critical care for patients at home. We think patients and the clinicians who serve them deserve better than a system stuck in 1995.

Verse Medical is building the modern software infrastructure to make it happen. We're a well-funded Series C company (backed by General Catalyst, SignalFire, and Sapphire Ventures) on a mission to heal a fragmented system. Our platform connects the dots between providers, payors, and patients, ensuring people get the high-quality care they need, reliably and right where they live. We’re growing fast and looking for people who are driven by this mission to join us!

Our Values: The Principles That Guide Us

Our values are the operating system for how we work together and with our partners. They aren't just words on a wall; they are the principles we bring to every decision, every day.

  • We are transparent, upfront and direct. We operate with honesty and clarity. We share information openly, the good and the bad, and believe that direct, respectful feedback is the foundation of trust and progress.
  • We value speed of iteration. We are building something new, which means we learn by doing. We prioritize rapid iteration and getting solutions into the hands of users, believing that progress is more valuable than perfection.
  • We give 110% effort, 30% of the time. We are passionate about our mission, and there are moments that require us to go the extra mile. We believe in focused intensity when it counts, balanced by a sustainable pace that keeps our team energized for the long run.
  • We empathize with customers to a fault. When our users face a problem, we own it. Instead of asking them to change, we ask ourselves, "How can we make this better?" We believe true innovation comes from deep empathy and a relentless focus on solving the real-world challenges of healthcare.

About Verse Medical

We’re building the software infrastructure that enables hospital-quality care, at home. As healthcare costs have increased, the patient’s home has become incredibly important as a site of care.

Yet, patients recovering at home are highly underserved. Patients can only get better at home if they receive the high-quality care that they need reliably. The existing in-home care process involves a patchwork of different vendors, all connected through faxes and phone calls. We’re building modern, robust software that solves this challenge. We currently operate across 49 states with most of the largest health systems in the US.

We’re a Series C company, backed by some of the best investors in technology and healthcare including General Catalyst, SignalFire, and Sapphire Ventures. We have ambitious expansion plans, so it’s a particularly exciting time to join the company as we’re aggressively expanding the team.

Why This Role:

  • Verse is one of the fastest growing companies in digital health. There isn’t that much out there about us online, but we’re solving a critical set of problems within healthcare wherein we’ve found clear product-market fit.
  • We’re very well capitalized with many years of runway.
  • The engineering team isn’t siloed off from the rest of the company. We work closely with customers & internal teams to define exactly what needs to be built. We’ve found that having our engineering team closely understand our users’ and internal needs has been critical to our success. This means that you quickly get exposure to the full product development process at Verse.
  • We’ve maintained a high bar for talent. You’ll lead a team that has the skills to take ownership of features & products end to end.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of engineers building software for hospitals and patients that will make their lives easier.
  • Make key architectural decisions in various domains (backend, frontend, database, infrastructure).
  • Provide coaching and feedback to engineers.
  • Find creative solutions to complex technical and product problems.
  • Guide engineers through complex technical projects.
  • Help hire and build out the engineering team as we scale.

Requirements:

  • 2 or more years of experience managing a team of software engineers (leading both as people manager and in a technical capacity).
  • 3 or more years of experience working as a full stack software engineer.
  • Strong skills in web-based APIs, frontend frameworks, and databases.
  • Logically think through complex problems and come up with effective solutions.
  • Exceptional communication skills for interfacing with both technical and non-technical folks.
  • Demonstrated ability in effectively leading complex technical projects.

Technologies:

  • Languages: Python and Typescript
  • Infrastructure: Postgres, Airflow, AWS, Google Cloud Platform
  • Frameworks: Flask, React, Apollo GraphQL

Engineering Values:

  • Pragmatism over elegance.
  • Simplicity of implementation.
  • Speed of execution.
  • Strong fundamentals in one's domain.

Benefits:

  • Salary range of $220,000 - $250,000 + equity. Exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience.
  • Opportunities for rapid career advancement in a growing company.
  • 100% premium coverage for health insurance.
  • 401(k) with no matching at this time.
