Genome Editing and Therapeutics - Faculty - Center for Disease Neurogenomics - Manhattan, NY

Mount Sinai Health System
New York, NY

Description

Faculty recruitment in Genome Editing and Therapeutics at Center for Disease Neurogenomics (CDN) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.

We are inviting applications for tenure-track faculty position (Assistant and Associate Professor level) for scientists that are working to develop the next generation of genome editing techniques and RNA and DNA-based therapeutics.

This includes biomedical engineers, bioengineers, developmental biologists and molecular and cellular biologists that apply state-of-the-art approaches for new nucleic acid delivery technologies, such as CRISPR gene and base editing tools and oligonucleotide therapeutics, and approaches for more sophisticated control of transgene expression. We are looking for scientists that apply this emerging technology to human neurons and organoids, with the objective of discovering novel genes critical in neuronal maturation and function, and/or developing multiplexed approaches to evaluate the combinatorial interactions between the hundreds of genetic variants underlying neuropsychiatric disease risk. Next generation human genome editing and forward genetic neuronal screens will allow members of CDN to resolve the interactions between genetic variants, cell types and molecular functions within an enhanced disease-relevant context.

Responsibilities

The Center for Disease Neurogenomics is a hub of neurogenomics and disease biology, towards development and enhancement of precision medicine across neuropsychiatric disorders. The candidate will join anoutstanding team of scientists with world class expertise in a broad range of disciplines, including genetics and genomics, neuroscience and clinical psychiatry. CDN promotes collaboration and cross-disciplinary interactions between basic wet lab and dry lab scientists and clinicians, and provides strong support to junior scientists.

The Center for Disease Neurogenomics is part of the Mount Sinai Health Care System, which is one of largest hospital systems in the United States, and the Icahn School of Medicine, which includes outstanding departments in psychiatry, neuroscience, genetics, immunology, stem cell biology, and experimental therapeutics, and over 5,000 faculty. The highly integrated structure of Mount Sinai’s departments, institutes and clinical divisions provide a unique environment for scientific and medical collaborations that foster an ideal atmosphere for innovations aimed at addressing 21st century biomedical challenges. Mount Sinai is ranked as one of the nation’s top biomedical institutions in research, patient care, and education, and over the last 10 years has become a leader in biomedical data science. In addition to the CDN, faculty recruits will be appointed in the Departments of Psychiatry, Genetics and Genomic Sciences and Neuroscience, which are among the top 5 ranked departments in the USA based on NIH funding.

Qualifications
  • Applicants should hold a Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. and are expected to develop independent research programs.
  • Candidates for the Associate Professor ranks must have a distinguished record of published research, demonstrating significant impact on the profession, and success at securing funding to support research programs.
  • We offer highly competitive recruitment packages, strong institutional commitments to faculty support, comprehensive benefits, relocation services, and a rewarding work and life environment.

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is located in the heart of Manhattan, one block from Central Park.

Compensation range from 165K to 200K (not including bonuses / incentive compensation or benefits).
