SUMMARY:
Brooklyn Perinatal Network Inc., is recruiting for a Senior Accounting staff position with a combined with knowledge of office operational IT technology systems. The Accountant will prepare financial reports to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, monthly financial closing and reporting, and other related financial activities. Knowledge of office operational IT technology systems. The Fiscal Functions are Primary (80 – 100% effort) and IT MIS Functions are Secondary (10-20 % effort).
Tasks will include:
- General Ledger Maintenance (currently Fund EZ) - The accountant will record financial data and transactions into the ledger based on supporting documents. Transactions would have to be properly classified by accounts and by cost centers. Supporting documents for each transaction will be maintained in an orderly manner for easy access and retention.
- Revenue to Collection - Collaborate with management and each cost center to collate information for submission of monthly claims for existing contracts. Then, monitor claims submitted and timely collections.
- Purchases to Disbursements - Receive requisitions and purchase documents. Payroll - Hours worked will be provided by management to the payroll service provider.
- The Senior Accountant will review payroll reports for accuracy based on hours provided by management to the payroll service provider and approved rates on file. Payroll transactions from the payroll reports will be posted in the general ledger system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Obtain the management approved biweekly payroll time report and process the payroll through the ADP system; transfer the payroll funds to the payroll account through the ACH system; and from the ADP processed payroll, determine the FTE allocation factors; prepare the payroll journal entries and prepare the OTPS indirect cost allocations. Performs general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department.
- Prepare monthly expense vouchers; record the receivables and revenues in the accounting system.
- Prepare correspondences to governmental agencies and funders, when appropriate, regarding matters concerning BPN fiscal matters. These correspondences will be executed by BPN management personnel. Prepares periodic (monthly) balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
- Analyze fringe benefit expense charges for the year to determine what amount, if any, is available for pension contribution; then prepare the necessary entry in the system and transmit the contribution to Principal.
- Collaborate and work with management on proposals from prospective funders with respect to budgets and narratives.
- Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
- Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
- Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections.
- Verifies payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
- Respond to the auditors; and prepare confirmations, schedules and analyses for the annual audit.
- Files required tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
- As appropriate, coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software system; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- 2-3 Years Experience, with Accounting Degree
- New grads welcomed to apply
- Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Highly proficient with accounting software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Compensation: $70,000.00 per year

Our purpose is to prevent and reduce infant/maternal illness and death, which for several years have been excessively high in our communities. By enabling at-risk residents to access vital information, coordinate care, supportive health and social supportive services and assisting families to secure public health benefits and resources needed to maintain health. We have seen a significant reduction in infant death and improved maternal and child health status.
BPN is a Network or Collaborative of several community organizations that:
- Provide medical care , offering a wide range of primary preventative an clinical services including pregnancy, OB/GYN care, pediatric, adolescent health care, general family practice and adult medicine; as well as specialty care in areas such as mental health, family planning, substance abuse treatment and counseling, HIV/AIDS care and more.
- Offer psycho-social health and educational services and referrals to other providers
- Coordinate and provide social health and supportive services; family preservation and development services, such as: case management, home-based services, family and individual counseling; teen pregnancy prevention and youth development programs; facilitate access to public assistance programs such as TANF food stamps, child care, housing, job preparation and enrollment for health insurance, among others.
