The Korea Society seeks a dedicated and qualified individual to serve as Senior Director of Education. The Senior Director will lead The Korea Society’s Education Department and Korean Studies initiatives, driving forward our mission to expand knowledge of Korea in the United States through dynamic educational programs. This senior-level position requires strategic vision, leadership, and a deep understanding of Korean studies, education policy, or program development.

Principal Responsibilities:

Administrative

  • Supervision: Supervise Education Department staff
  • Fiscal: Manage annual departmental budget and prepare cost projections for upcoming years
  • Reporting: Track all educational programming results and contribute to sponsor reports and proposals for TKS-wide programs, and assume prime responsibility for reporting to solely Education-specific program sponsors
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the creation and implementation of 3-year Strategic Plans and monitor Education Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
  • Online Application Management: Manage an online application and review system, currently used for six annual competitions
  • Fund-raising : Identify and secure funding to support existing and advance new programming
  • Outreach : Build strategic partnerships by cultivating relationships with middle and high schools and educators, higher education Korean/Asian Studies and related departments, and organizations/institutions that promote Korean Studies

Programming

Korean Language Program (KLP): Supervise the KLP coordinator and in close collaboration, oversee existing and develop new language and cultural programs

  • approve hiring of staff, salaries, tuition rates, and promotional schemes
  • Monitor expenditures
  • Advance enhances streamlined operations

Project Bridge (PB) Youth Ambassadors: Directly implement all aspects of this program, which TKS partners with the Pacific Century Institute (PCI) in Los Angeles and the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center at U. Montana (MC). Responsibilities include

  • Manage three online applications; one for each site
  • Create recruitment and selection processes for New York PB and execute robust outreach to the NYC public high schools
  • Create and deliver bi-monthly academic year workshops on Korea and global leadership skills, securing, as needed, TKS and outside speakers, and share materials with Partner Organizations
  • Assume prime responsibility for organizing and leading the10-day Korea Study Tour, including logistics (air travel, insurance, in-country transportation, lodging, meals, and gifts), itinerary creation and finalization, securing sponsorships with existing and new corporate, government, school and university entities, initiate and maintain all sponsor communication(prior, during and after trip), creation of Study Tour Guides (sponsor and parent/student) as well as financial tracking and justification and final reporting
  • Organize final PB community presentations and graduation ceremony
  • Maintain alumni listings and cultivate engagement

Workshops and Resources

  • Manage existing and develop and/or secure new educational resources hosted on TKS’s website, along with initiating improved search tools
  • Maintain and refine existing workshop materials and create new offerings intended for in-person delivery at TKS or in area schools
  • Adapt existing materials for online delivery as well as convert into replicable workshops for instructors’ use; develop a promotion scheme
  • Secure outside funding to advance improvements and distribution

Undergraduate Korea Study Tour Travel Grant

  • manage online application and all recruitment and selection processes
  • award 10 “topping off” grants (5 in spring and 5 in fall) to underfinanced US students intending to study in Korea for a minimum of 10 to 15 weeks
  • secure sponsor funding

Lectures

  • Sherman Family Korea Emerging Scholar Lecture Gra nt

-Conduct annual competition and selection of an emerging scholar, as well as promotion schemes

- Arrange all logistics for the promotion and delivery of the lecture

-Maintain the website and create an Annual Report for the Sherman Family

  • Current and Future Directions in Korean Studies Series

-Identify the series’ speakers and arrange all logistics and promotion schemes

-secure outside funding

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree or higher in education (international education preferred), Korean Studies, or a related field
  • Minimum of ten years of related experience
  • Demonstrated interest in Korea
  • Conversational Korean is highly desired
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels within organizations/institutions
  • Excellent organizational and /time management skills to handle multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Detail-oriented in managing information, documentation, and communication
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances, priorities, and needs
  • Some evening and weekend work and travel required
  • Eligible to work in the US
