Dermatologist - Chief of Service (City of Syracuse)
Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

A Staff Dermatologist at the Syracuse VA Medical Center will:
- Provide general Dermatology consultation and services in accordance with clinical standards at the Syracuse VAMC and SUNY Upstate Medical University, with an academic appointment based on experience and education.
- Supervise and educate residents and fellows during their clinical rotations in Dermatology.
- Develop and participate in a Tele-dermatology program accessible across the VISN-2 Network.
- Collaborate with hospital staff, including physicians, extenders, nurses, and ancillary personnel.
- Contribute expertise in multispecialty and patient care discussions.
- Participate in research, quality improvement, and teaching activities related to your interests.
- Provide inpatient and outpatient dermatology consultations and education as needed.
- Perform dermatologic procedures within your expertise.
- Maintain board certification and ongoing medical education.
- Serve on peer review and other committees as requested.
- Comply with medical staff bylaws and complete medical records timely via CPRS.
- Engage in process improvements, teaching, chart reviews, and quality assurance.
- Attend staff meetings and oversee care to ensure evidence-based practices and a collegial environment.
- Oversee care provided by physician extenders in your area.

Qualifications

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited school. For foreign graduates, verification with ECFMG is required. Exceptional candidates without standard accreditation may be considered for research or administrative roles.
