Consumer Loan Underwriter

At TEG Federal Credit Union, we pride ourselves on being more than just a financial institution; we are a caring team dedicated to each other and our community. We are seeking a Consumer Loan Underwriter  to join our growing team in Poughkeepsie, NY.


In this function, you will be primarily responsible for underwriting consumer loans. You will make quality lending decisions by analyzing candidates’ credit worthiness and factoring in the character, capacity, and collateral of each borrower, while supporting the organization’s growth goals and fostering relationships with our members.


*this job offer is ON-SITE and includes working one Saturday per month.



What We’re Looking For (Qualifications):

» 1-3 years of consumer lending practice, preferably in a financial institution

»Underwriting practice is strongly desired

»Strong listening expertise and verbal and written communication expertise

»Must have flexible availcapability, including Saturdays (typically one per month)

What You’ll Do as the Consumer Loan Underwriter (Responsibilities):

»Receive loan applications from central queue and underwrite accordingly

»Analyze current financial position of prospective borrowers to determine degree of risk

»Make lending decisions within credit union policies and guidelines

»Establish terms and conditions of approved loans

»Contact loan applicant if necessary for clarification or concerns

»Search for additional outstanding loan prospects during underwriting process

»Effectively sell credit union products and services according to member needs

»Provide support and backup to all team members in the Lending department

Pay: $22 - $28 / hour, located on practice
