What is a Gas Foreman/Forewoman?
Gas Foremen/Forewomen are responsible for scheduling, assigning, and superviseing the work of Central Hudson’s Gas Operations personnel and contractors. Title/level is commensurate with practice.
What does a Gas Foreman/Forewoman do?
»Ensures safety, quality, timeliness, productivity, and value on a regular basis and provides performance feedback to subordinates
»Strategically leverages resources to provide high quality and cost-effective installation, maintenance, and repair of gas infrastructure
»Meets necessary schedules connected with installation, repair, and inspection of the gas transmission and distribution systems
»Works under general supervision, takes ownership of project/task completion and commits to meeting scheduled due dates, identifies emerging issues, and works closely with internal and external parties to quickly resolve issues or concerns
»Trains personnel in the application and use of materials, equipment, and procedures
»Utilizes the company’s computer information systems
»Must be able to execute work that conforms to all project, program, and task requirements including defined scope jobs, resource scheduling, and budget management
»Must be aware of, understand, follow, and apply procedures and practices from the Manual of Safe Practices, Gas Construction Standards, Gas Operating and Maintenance Procedures, engineering theories, construction concepts and techniques
»Always demonstrates respect and courtesy when communicating with customers and the public and promotes and maintains a safe workplace for employees, contractors, and the public
»Responds to all requests to work outside of normal work hours and completes on-call rotation
»Supports storm/emergency restoration efforts
What does it take to be a Gas Foreman/Forewoman?
Required
»Associate’s degree and 2+ years of utility related (e.g. gas, electric, water, steam, sewer, power plant, etc.) work practice in construction and/or maintenance. In lieu of an associate’s degree, a high school diploma or equivalency degree and 3+ years of related work practice will be considered.
»Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and the capability to lgain new computer software programs quickly
»Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication expertise along with strong organizational and planning expertise
» capability to manage a wide variety and number of projects and deadlines
» capability to troubleshoot transmission/distribution systems and recommend workable solutions
»Must be willing to respond to all requests to work outside of normal work hours
»Valid driver’s license
Preferred
» practice in the electric and gas utility industry
» managery practice and/or practice directing field work
»Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a technical degree and broad natural gas related work practice
»Knowledge of distribution and transmission systems, equipment, policies, practices, codes and standards and basic knowledge of engineering principles, project management, and cost control techniques
