Salary: $80,000 Minimum

Minimum Requirements:

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:

(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Data Processing, Management Information Systems, plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience responsible for the maintenance, configuration or installation of micro-computer hardware and software; OR,

(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with an Associate's degree in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Data Processing, Management Information Systems, plus four (4) years experience as defined in (A) above; OR,

C) Six (6) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as defined in (A) above; OR,

(D) Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C) above.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience: Prior experience working as a Network Administrator or in a similar role.

Networking Fundamentals: Deep understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.), topologies (star, bus, ring, mesh), and architectures (LAN, WAN, VPN).

Hardware & Cabling: Hands-on experience with routing and switching technologies, as well as different network cabling types and standards (Cat5e, Cat6, fiber).

Software Proficiency: Proficiency in network operating systems such as Cisco IOS or Juniper Junos. Experience with server operating systems and software such as VMWare, Microsoft Server, Linux (Ubuntu, RHEL, Debian) and database platforms like Microsoft SQL or alternatives.

Analytical Skills: Ability to think critically and creatively to solve complex infrastructure challenges while adapting to changing priorities under pressure.

Certifications: Industry certifications are highly valued (e.g., Cisco CCNA, CCNP, Juniper JNCIA, JNCIS, VMware VCTA/VCP, Linux Professional Institute).

Cloud Computing: Advanced understanding of cloud concepts (virtual networks, VPCs, cloud firewalls) and experience managing hybrid environments that integrate on-premises infrastructure with platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Advanced Troubleshooting: Experience with packet analysis tools (Wireshark, tcpdump) for in-depth troubleshooting.

Scripting & Automation: Proficient in using PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, or Python to streamline server maintenance and automate routine network operations.

Version Control: Experienced in managing code and configurations using Git-based platforms such as GitHub or GitLab.

Advanced Security: Experience with security information and event management (SIEM) systems and an understanding of security protocols like SSL/TLS and VPN.

Emerging Tech: Awareness of the latest networking trends, such as SDN, NFV, and IoT.

Position Summary/Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Management: Install, configure, and maintain network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and access points. Manage server virtualization hardware and clusters including resource allocation, snapshots, and high availability.

Systems & Connectivity Support: Effectively diagnose and resolve complex server and network issues using a systematic approach to identify root causes. Provide timely, patient, and customer-centric support to end-users experiencing technical problems across the district's network and server infrastructure.

Performance Optimization: Identify and address network and server infrastructure bottlenecks and performance issues. Apply network optimization techniques such as QoS, caching, and traffic shaping.

Security & Monitoring: Proactively identify and mitigate network security threats and vulnerabilities. Monitor networks using diagnostic and management tools such as PRTG and Zabbix.

Endpoint & Systems Management: Administers enterprise management tools (such as SCCM and Intune) to orchestrate automated software deployment, OS deployment, and patch management cycles, ensuring all district devices are secure, updated, and remotely supported.

Documentation & Collaboration: Create and maintain clear documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedures. Collaborate effectively with other IT departments and mentor junior team members.

Continuous Improvement: Take ownership of tasks through to completion and continuously learn to stay current with evolving trends and security threats.
