POSITION: Public Health Nurse (HELPS)

DEPARTMENT: Albany County Department of Health

SALARY: $84,922, In addition to contractual COLA increases, the annual salary of $84,922 will increase
by $400 on the anniversary date for three years

DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Program Director of Parent Child Health, performs public health nursing activities with individuals and
families in accordance with the planned program of the agency. The Public Health Nurses’ activities involve responsibility for as-
sessing nursing needs and implementing the plan of care for individuals and families. They may serve as a team leader in the provi-

sion of nursing services. They may supervise professional or auxiliary nursing staff. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Current license and registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State throughout the time of em-

ployment;

• A valid New York State driver’s license at the time of appointment and to be maintained throughout employment.

This title will be filled on a provisional basis. Selected candidate(s) must sign up for the civil service exam when it is posted, pass and
be reachable on the resulting eligible list in order to obtain a permanent appointment.

Candidates will not have to take an exam for this title. This is a Hiring Emergency Limited Placement (HELP) Program-

designated title. The HELP Program is a temporary program designed to help local government employers address current staffing

issues. Traditionally, the titles filled under the HELP Program required job candidates to compete in a competitive exam to be

considered for employment. For the duration of the program, this title will be classified as non-competitive and categorized as a

“HELP Program” position. At the close of the program, this position will revert to competitive class status. Employees occupying

positions filled through the HELP Program will be granted competitive class status without the need to participate in a competitive

exam.
