Associate Researcher I- Pharmacological Sciences

We seek a talented and motivated Research Associate I to assist in conducting a new NIH-funded study at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai examining a new mechanism and therapy for comorbid health problems, including Alzheimer’s disease, metabolic dysregulation, and more, in mouse models of Down Syndrome.

The Research Associate is an entry or mid-level researcher, responsible for conducting and assisting in rodent research studies under the supervision of Dr. Ki Goosens and her collaborators in the Center for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology at Mount Sinai. The individual will conduct studies in mice. Primary responsibilities will include running experiments, collecting and processing tissues and blood samples, and running ELISAs and other assays to measure specific biomarkers. The individual will also organize and analyze data, help prepare research articles for publication, order reagents, perform tasks to maintain lab safety, and arrange data to meet archiving requirements. The individual will also present data in lab meetings, department retreats, and, potentially, at scientific conferences.

Experience with genotyping of transgenic mice, performing RNAscope on different tissues, and running ELISAs, immunohistochemistry and/or Western blot is preferred. Experience with small animal surgery and rodent handling is required. Familiarity with multiple tissues/organ systems (brain, adipose, bone, etc.) a plus. Candidates must be comfortable interacting with people, work well in a team, and have an interest in translational science spanning the brain and periphery. Candidates should also be organized, able to troubleshoot or problem-solve, capable of meeting deadlines, and interested in actively contributing to a fast-paced, dynamic project.

The majority of the individual’s time and effort will be allocated to conducting the funded study as described above, but the individual may also assist with other ongoing lab projects as needed. The position provides an excellent opportunity for training, with likely authorship on papers and abstracts, and can serve as a stepping stone to graduate school or medical school, but it could also provide a long-term opportunity to work as a laboratory scientist. Candidates who can make at least two full years of commitment to this project are required.

Responsibilities
  • Conducts routine and standardized experiments using appropriate research techniques specific to subject matter of the research project.
  • Analyzes and assists in interpreting moderately complex results.
  • Analyzes and assists in interpreting laboratory results.
  • Performs assays to support research studies.
  • Maintains laboratory environment and assists in the upkeep of appropriate inventory; may include ordering of supplies.
  • Logs and tests samples; prepares and submits laboratory materials and specimens for shipment.
  • Assists in new and unexpected research experiments and techniques.
  • Assists in the collection, analysis and review of experimental data for publication and presentation.
  • Performs other related duties.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in science or related field required
  • 1 - 2 years of research/laboratory experience

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58661 - $74609.83 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
