Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) for a contract position in the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) at a top-tier hospital in Manhattan. The RN will be responsible for delivering safe, evidence-based, and compassionate psychiatric nursing care to patients across CPEP, Adult Psych, and Child/Adolescent units.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) tailored to psychiatric populations

• Float between CPEP, Adult Psych, and Child/Adol units based on unit needs

• Perform ongoing mental and physical health assessments

• Administer psychotropic and emergency medications; monitor for side effects

• Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, and the interdisciplinary team

• Maintain accurate documentation in EPIC EMR system

• Participate in discharge planning and crisis stabilization interventions

• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and care goals

• Adhere to all hospital, legal, and regulatory standards of practice

• Participate in hourly rounding, shift reporting, and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications:

• Active NYS Registered Nurse license (required)

• BLS (AHA) certification (required)

• CPI certification (required)

• Minimum 2 years of recent psychiatric RN experience , including CPEP or ED Psych

• Experience with adult and pediatric psychiatric populations

• EPIC experience (required)

• Strong crisis management, de-escalation, and therapeutic communication skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate’s with relevant experience acceptable

• Patient Ratio: 1:5

• Unit Size: 4 beds per unit

• Required onboarding documents: SEL & SCR forms

Interested candidates should be comfortable working overnight shifts , floating between psychiatric units, and supporting both adult and pediatric populations in an emergency psych setting.
