Assistant, Associate or Professor 10 Months in the Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering
Maritime College, a founding institution of the State University of New York and the first of the nation's six maritime academies, is located on the Throggs Neck Peninsula where the East River meets the Long Island Sound. The Engineering department offers ABET-accredited degrees in electrical engineering, facilities engineering, marine engineering, mechanical engineering, and naval architecture as well as training for licensure in the Merchant Marine. The Engineering department at Maritime College, State University of New York, invites applications for the position of, Assistant, Professor in the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. This is a tenure/tenure-track, 10-month academic year appointment. The Maritime College naval architecture and marine engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET and are focused on ship design, marine power, small boat design, shipboard engineering systems, and marine propulsion. We welcome applications from candidates with any background in naval architecture, marine, ocean engineering, or nuclear systems engineering. Requirements:
Required Qualifications: The successful candidate will have most, if not all, of the following qualifications: An advanced degree in naval architecture, marine engineering, ocean engineering or closely related discipline:
1. Highly qualified individuals with a master's degree, licensure as a professional engineer, licensure as a USCG Engineering Officer, or significant industrial experience may be considered for a non-tenure track position as Lecturer
2. A reasonable expectation of timely completion of a Ph.D. is required for appointment at the Rank of Assistant Professor
3. A Ph.D. and previous academic or industrial experience is required for appointment at the Associate Professor Rank
4. A Ph.D. and significant previous academic experience at the Associate or Full Professor is required for appointment at the Professor Rank
Demonstrated ability or potential to teach and develop courses in naval architect, marine engineering, or systems engineering
Demonstrated ability or potential to advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
Demonstrated ability to conduct research with a focus on advancing knowledge and solving practical problems in the field
A commitment to engage in departmental, school, and college service activities, such as committee work, student recruitment, and outreach events
A commitment to provide professional service to the engineering community, such as serving on technical committees, reviewing manuscripts, and participating in professional organizations.
A commitment to fostering a just, inclusive environment and enabling students across racial, ethnic, identity, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential Further, exceptional candidates, will also have: Demonstrated experience seeking and securing external funding for through grant proposals
A record, appropriate to rank, of publishing results in peer-reviewed journals and presenting their work at conferences
Licensure as a professional engineer or USCG engineering officer
Industrial experience, particularly in the power industry Additional Information:
Classification: The, Assistant, Professor position will be an academic year 10 month UUP appointment. Compensation includes a full benefits package in accordance with the contract between the State University of New York and United University Professionals (for more information please visit the UUP-FT-Benefits-at-a-Glance-Jan-2025.pdf. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Special Notes: Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
