The College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity (CEHC) is the first of its kind in the nation; uniting people, technology and knowledge to address the challenges of the 21st century. The Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurship Complex (ETEC) is the $180M research, instructional and entrepreneurial complex in which CEHC resides, providing our faculty state of the art laboratory and teaching spaces.

CEHC seeks adjunct lecturers for the Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Successful candidates will be able to teach courses in one or more of the following subject areas: emergency management, homeland security, research methods, leadership and ethics, project management, critical inquiry and communication, and/or justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in emergency management and homeland security.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in emergency management and homeland security in one or more areas which may include but not limited to emergency management, homeland security, research methods, leadership and ethics, project management, critical inquiry and communication, and/or justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in emergency management and homeland security.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships:
  • Reports to Department Chair

Job Requirements:
  • Knowledge of emergency management and homeland security concepts in one or more areas such as research methods, leadership and ethics, project management, critical inquiry and communication, or justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to design and deliver effective undergraduate and/or graduate instruction in emergency management and homeland security across in-person, online, and hybrid modalities.
  • Ability to incorporate applied field experience or current professional practices in emergency management and homeland security into academic coursework.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and foster an inclusive learning environment that supports student success within a diverse academic community.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A MA or MS in criminology, criminal justice, political science, public policy, disaster science, sociology, geography, or a closely related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Three or more years of academic teaching or professional training experience.
  • Demonstrated readiness to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in varying modalities (in-person, online, and/or hybrid).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A PhD in criminology, criminal justice, political science, public policy, disaster science, sociology, geography, or a closely related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Experience teaching graduate courses in emergency management, homeland security, and research methods such as preparedness and response, mitigation and recovery, crises and vulnerable population, governance and stakeholders, risk theory and management, research design, quantitative methods, qualitative methods, and professional analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated experience or teaching in multiple modalities (in-person, online, and/or hybrid).
  • One or more years working in the field of emergency management and homeland security.
