Construction Site Supervisor

Work Week: Tuesday – Saturday, 8:00am – 4:30pm
Compensation: $26.25 - $30.75/hour GENERAL :
The Construction Site Supervisor at Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity (GRHFH) is often one of the first people a Habitat volunteer will interact with, and their work is critical to mission of Habitat to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope. This position will serve the needs of homebuyers and volunteers while ensuring quality standards and best construction practices, while focusing on what is in the best interest of the organization and its goals, mission and values. The Site Supervisor supervises the construction of homes, providing day-to-day hands-on training, direction, and feedback to staff and volunteers. The Site Supervisor is accountable to ensure homes are built to specification, to schedule, and in a safe manner while promoting the values of GRHFH when working with volunteers and in the community. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : This includes but is not limited to:
- Build homes to plan, to schedule, and completing tasks to GRHFH specs.
- Teach and lead small and large groups of volunteers and staff to complete daily tasks.
- Coordinate, teach, and guide volunteers and staff on the jobsite based on the task, need, and ability level in a way that gets the task accomplished to the schedule and specs.
- Ensure volunteer paperwork and training is completed daily including waivers and safety talks.
- Train volunteers and staff as needed to complete assigned tasks confidently, efficiently, and safely.
- Ensure necessary tools, materials, and equipment are available and in good working order before the start of the volunteer shift, based on GRHFH standards and OSHA guidelines.
- Ensure the site is free of potential hazards and risks and that required PPE and other safety equipment is visible and operable.
- Participate in construction planning and volunteer scheduling meetings weekly.
- Report needed information about site progress to construction leadership at weekly construction meeting.
- Ensure materials and resources are used judiciously and efficiently.
- Ensure jobsites, materials and tools are secure and protected from theft.
- Prepare for, schedule, and conduct inspections to ensure a high rate of approval.
- Prepare for and conduct homeowner pre-move in walkthrough.
- Manage any assigned assistant crew leader’s time, tasks, training, and feedback.
- Complete punch lists and repairs/warranties to comply with current GRHFH policies.
- Code and approve invoices weekly on the first day of the workweek to be reviewed by CFM.
- Plan use of Regular volunteer work weekly (Hammer and Saw, Cabinet shop, Trades, etc.) with Volunteer Coordinator and CFM to maximize their usefulness.
- Report jobsite progress, volunteer needs, material ordering information, and necessary changes and solutions to appropriate staff member consistently.
- Identify and document issues and opportunities for enhancement and communicate to construction manager.
- Participate in media, fundraising, and celebration/recognition events. (may occur on evenings or weekends).
- Act as an ambassador to support the mission and values of Habitat for Humanity.
- Comprehensive Knowledge: Strong understanding of all facets of home construction. Particular expertise in foundations, framing, and interior finishing preferred.
- Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate instructions and feedback to individuals with varying skill levels and personalities.
- Leadership and Teaching: Experience in guiding and educating both small and large groups of volunteers to achieve daily objectives.
- Schedule Management: Proficient in following schedules and making necessary adjustments to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Construction Expertise: In-depth knowledge of construction materials, methods, and safety protocols, including OSHA standards.
- Physical Stamina: Capability to navigate uneven terrain, lift up to 50 lbs. independently, and stand for extended periods.
- Outdoor Work: Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions throughout the year.
- Communication Channels: Competency in communicating effectively in person, over the phone, and via computer.
- Reliability: Consistent and dependable attendance.
- Driver’s License: Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and the ability to operate large trucks.
- Certifications: CPR/First Aid certification (training provided), and valid Habitat Competent Person Training (training provided). Valid trades certifications are a plus.
- A minimum of three years’ work experience in the residential construction field is required, six years or more preferred.
- Experience working for a Habitat for Humanity affiliate as construction staff or construction AmeriCorps preferred.
