Dance Instructor

Organization: Brooklyn United Music & Arts Program

Brooklyn United is seeking a passionate, energetic, and committed Dance Instructor to join our team and work with youth in our afterschool and Saturday programs. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with students, building discipline through dance, and contributing to a structured, performance-driven environment.

Schedule

• Afterschool Program: Monday – Friday | 2:30 PM – 7:30 PM
• Saturday Program: 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM

Responsibilities

• Lead and instruct dance classes for students of varying skill levels
• Teach choreography and technique (hip-hop, majorette, or related styles preferred)
• Prepare students for performances, competitions, and showcases
• Maintain a structured, disciplined, and engaging classroom environment
• Track attendance and student progress
• Collaborate with program staff and leadership

Requirements

• Prior experience teaching or coaching dance (youth experience preferred)
• Strong communication and classroom management skills
• Ability to motivate, mentor, and inspire students
• Reliable, punctual, and professional
• Passion for youth development and performance arts

Qualifications :

• Bachelor’s degree in Dance, Performing Arts, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• Previous experience teaching dance in an educational setting, preferably within an HBCU or similar community-focused program.
• Strong knowledge of various dance styles (hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, African, etc.).
• Ability to choreograph and lead students in creating original dance routines.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Passion for teaching and mentoring students, with a focus on developing both their dance skills and character.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
• CPR/First Aid certification is a plus.

Compensation

• Salary is based on experience and skill level
