Housing & Financial Counselor General Requirements:
» Multitasking Excellence: Manage multiple activities and projects with varying deadlines, importance, and stakeholders. Prioritize tasks effectively.
» Education & practice: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work practice required.
» Strong Communication: Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal expertise.
» Community knowledge: Possess an knowledge of the communities and populations we serve.
» Tech Savvy: Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Classroom, and PowerPoint. availability to adapt to additional technologies as our program grows.
» Bilingual: A large part of our clientele is Spanish speaking so being bilingual is required.
»Certified Qualified Loan Originator or willing to become certified within 90 days of hire.
Housing & Financial Counselor Responsibilities:
» Homebuyer suitable education Collaborate with Advancing Black Homeownership Manager to conduct orientations and educate candidates about our homeownership program. Comfortably present in group settings.
» Recruitment Strategies: Work with Advancing Black Homeownership Program Manager to develop targeted recruitment strategies for specific market audiences.
» Homebuyer Selection: Utilize your Certified Qualified Loan Originator certification (training provided) to manage application orientations, screen applications for financial requirements, and ensure compliance with background checks.
» Homebuying Partners: Keep partner families informed about events, classes, and education opportunities. Track sweat equity hours and assist in budgeting and financial counseling.
» Homebuyer Purchase Process: Calculate affordable sales prices, create sales contracts, contact with third-party lenders, and prepare homebuyers for closing.
» Homeowners: Develop and distribute monthly newsletters, provide access to community resources, and manage warranty claims.
» Home Repair & Mobile Home Replacement: Review applications, coordinate with construction teams, and track repair progress.
» Committee Coordination: Lead Application Review Committee, attend key home events, and make process recommendations.
» Policy Implementation: Ensure compliance with Homeownership Department policies and assist in the application of Affordable Housing Corporation Grants.
