Medical Surgical Nurse,

This role is for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a medical-surgical unit of a tertiary care hospital. The LPN will provide direct patient care under the supervision of an RN, managing a patient assignment, and collaborating with the healthcare team. The position requires experience in a hospital setting within the last two years and familiarity with electronic health records (Epic).

Responsibilities:

- Managing a patient assignment, with RN support.
- Providing direct patient care, including medication administration (oral, IM, SQ, IV), wound care, and monitoring vital signs.
- Performing procedures such as Foley catheter insertion, obtaining urine samples, and managing feeding tubes.
- Monitoring patients on telemetry and obtaining 12-lead EKGs.
- Communicating patient status changes to the RN and physician.
- Maintaining accurate documentation in Epic.
- Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team.
- Floating to other units as needed.
- Adhering to hospital policies and procedures.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Certifications:

- Current LPN license in New York.
- Minimum of two years of recent hospital experience (within the last 2 years).
- Current BLS certification.
- Proficiency in Epic EHR system.
- Ability to manage own patient assignment.
- Experience with various medical procedures (as listed in the input).

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

- Experience in emergency or critical care.
- Experience with ventilators, tracheostomies, and PICC lines.

Special Considerations:

- Every other weekend requirement.
- 3 twelve-hour night shifts per week.
- Patient population includes medical patients with conditions such as COPD, infections, failure to thrive, and social issues.
- Float to other units is required.
- Patient ratios: Days 1:5, Nights 1:6, Weekends 1:6.
- Work setting: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit.

Scheduling:

- Three 12-hour night shifts per week.
- Every other weekend rotation.
