Construction Bookkeeper

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Construction Bookkeeper to join our team. This role is responsible for managing the financial records and transactions specific to the construction industry, ensuring accuracy in job costing, accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, and compliance with industry-specific reporting standards. The ideal candidate will be experienced in construction accounting and comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate financial records and general ledgers using construction-specific accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, Procore)
- Handle accounts payable and receivable, including tracking subcontractor invoices, lien waivers, and payment applications
- Prepare and manage job cost reports, budgets, and project-specific financial tracking
- Perform payroll processing including certified payroll and prevailing wage reporting
- Reconcile bank statements, credit cards, and vendor accounts regularly
- Manage monthly and quarterly financial reporting, including P&L statements and balance sheets
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations (sales tax, insurance audits, licensing)
- Work closely with project managers, estimators, and company leadership to maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for active and completed projects
- Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and audit preparation
- Track change orders, retainage, and billing milestones
- Maintain vendor and subcontractor documentation, including W-9s and certificates of insurance
- 5+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience, in construction industry
- Proficiency in NetSuite
- Strong understanding of job costing, progress billing, and project financials
- Knowledge of construction contracts (AIA billing, lien releases, retainage)
- Experience with certified payroll and labor compliance requirements is a plus
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
- Ability to communicate clearly with internal teams, vendors, and clients
