Camp Music Specialist (Greenvale)
Position Overview
The Music Specialist is responsible for designing and leading inclusive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate music programming for campers with a wide range of abilities and support needs. This role creates a joyful, supportive environment where campers can explore music through singing, movement, instruments, rhythm, and sensory‑friendly activities. The ideal candidate is creative, patient, and passionate about using music to support social, emotional, and cognitive growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership
Plan and facilitate daily music sessions for campers ages 5 to 21 with diverse developmental, physical, emotional, and sensory needs.
Adapt musical activities to accommodate individual camper abilities, communication styles, and sensory profiles.
Incorporate movement, rhythm instruments, vocal play, music games, and multisensory elements into lessons.
Create a safe and supportive environment that encourages participation, creativity, and self‑expression.
Collaboration & Camper Support
Work closely with Group Leaders, Counselors, and Engagement Coordinator to support individual camper goals.
Modify activities based on guidance from Group Leaders, Counselors, Engagement Coordinator, or Directorship team
Build positive relationships with campers, using encouragement and clear communication.
Program Materials & Environment
Maintain and organize musical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
Ensuring a clean, welcoming, and sensory‑considerate space.
Introduce adaptive instruments or technology as appropriate (e.g., switch‑activated instruments, visual supports).
Qualifications:
Experience working with children or teens with disabilities (developmental, physical, or learning differences).
Background in music, music education, music therapy, performing arts, or related field.
Strong singing ability and comfort leading group music activities.
Patience, compassion, and a positive, team‑oriented mindset.
Preferred but not required:
Degree or certification in Music Education, Music Therapy (MT‑BC), Special Education, or related fields.
Experience with adaptive music techniques or sensory‑friendly programming.
Schedule & Work Environment:
Seasonal, Part-time position; dates: June 29th – Aug 21st (2 – 3 days a week)
Typical hours: 9:30 – 12:35
Compensation details: 30-45 Hourly Wage
