The Role

As a Barback at Hommali, you are responsible for supporting the bar team so that every drink reaches the guest with speed, consistency, and care. You will keep the bar fully stocked with ice, garnishes, glassware, and spirits, maintain a clean and organized bar throughout service, and assist Bartenders with prep work so they can focus on guest interaction. You will anticipate the bar's needs before they arise, communicate important information to the Bar and management, and work closely with the Bartenders, Servers, and Runners to create a seamless experience from greeting to check. The role of the Barback is essential to the success of the restaurant.

Hommali believes in a 'whole house' mentality and we expect all departments — Kitchen, Dining Room, Bar, and Facilities — to support and motivate each other to achieve our goal of guest satisfaction. As a Barback, you will interact with all of these departments regularly and should be able to communicate effectively and respectfully with your coworkers and managers.

This is a full-time position and requires flexible schedule availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Candidate Requirements

• 1+ years experience in a fast-paced NYC restaurant as a Bar Back preferred
• Responsible for delivering excellent guest experience by supporting bartenders during service. 
• Ability to work other parts of service apart from the creation of beverages at the bar
• Strong food and beverage knowledge; wine knowledge a plus

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50lbs or the weight of a case of spirits and similar goods typically in use for deliveries
• Safely and effectively use all necessary tools and equipment
• Stand and walk for an entire shift, including moving safely through all areas of the restaurant

Service Responsibilities

• Be warm, knowledgeable, and appreciative
• Accommodate guests by making each individual feel welcome
• Present the menu and make genuine, informed recommendations on food, wine, and beverage
• Take accurate orders and enter them promptly and correctly into the POS
• Communicate allergies, dietary restrictions, and special requests clearly to the kitchen
• Act professionally and always maintain composure
• Identify and report problems to management immediately
• Be aware of service flow, dining timing, and adjust pacing for each guest's individual needs
• Implement and follow steps of service
• Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked service stations
• Support side work during opening, closing, and service as directed by management
