Duties Description Under the direction of the Lead Data Scientist (29), within the Chief Artificial Intelligence Office, the position will assist in the development of AI solutions combining data science, natural language processing (NLP) and generative AI tools. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:- Design and implement machine learning models and AI algorithms.- Maintain updated knowledge on the latest AI trends and technologies.- Adopt AI technology to perform named entity recognition (NER) and sentiment analysis tasks using relevant software.- Collaborate with data engineers, software developers, and other IT professionals to ensure proper implementation of AI models.- Coordinate with various state agencies to craft data science solutions as needed.- Perform regular testing and debugging of AI systems to ensure optimal performance.- Identify opportunities to leverage AI technology to improve business processes.- Record and maintain proper code and documentation on ITS processes, policies, application configuration and help related materials.- Conform to ITS policies, technical and security standards.Preferred Skills:- Strong interest in AI.- Previous coursework or projects related to AI or natural language processing.- Experience with Python or R for scripting and data manipulation.- Exposure to NLP packages and software such as SpaCy, PyTorch or NLTK are a plus.

Minimum Qualifications - Must be a US citizen or foreign national eligible to work in the United States- Must be 18 years of age or older- Must be currently attending a New York State college, university or graduate program, or be a resident of New York State attending a college, university or graduate program outside of New York State- Must have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a more extended period of time may qualify part-time students) OR currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate degree program- Must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or equivalent to a C.
